“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”
-Henry David Thoreau
Born in Northern Chicago, my love for fishing started at a young age. My dad would take my brother and I to the local golf course pond and we would fish for hours and hours. Though we weren’t catching the biggest fish, there was something about just being outside enjoying the water, nature, and family.
After mastering the Bluegills of the Par 3 13th hole, we soon began to adventure out to different lakes up in Wisconsin. My family decided to buy a fishing boat for over $20,000. At first, we were ecstatic and every weekend we would take the boat up to a new lake to find our trophy catch. Unfortunately, after only 3 months, our transmission blew out twice and the boat was hit by a car while parked on our trailer. They say the two happiest days in a boat owner's life are the day he buys a boat, and the day he sells a boat. I can honestly say this is incredibly true.
This was a negative turning point in my love for fishing… until I came across Kayak Fishing. It all began one day when I got a call from one of my best friends and he asked me if I wanted to go fishing with him on a kayak. At first, I was very skeptical because I thought I would tip over and have difficulty landing the fish. My concerns were immediately put to rest after successfully bringing in a 40 in Northern Pike from my kayak.
The love for fishing isn’t just about catching a huge fish every time…or even catching a fish at all. Fishing is about forming endless relationships with your loved ones and nature every time you hit the water. Whether you catch the trophy fish you have been waiting for your entire life, or get skunked after a long hot day- the art of fishing is not about the numbers.
My passion for Kayak fishing is so strong, that I want to spread it throughout the world. Eco Fishing Shop is a dream that is becoming a reality. We respect the environment. We spread the word to reduce emissions and to keep the earth a better place. We practice catch and release, and most of all, we pass along this great sport down through generation to generation and protect the sport for our children and grandchildren.
Your fish is my command,
