The Eddyline Rio 140 is the top-performing model in Eddyline's recreational lineup — a 14-foot sit-inside kayak that brings genuine sea kayak performance to a familiar, approachable package. Built with Eddyline's proprietary Carbonlite thermoformed construction, the Rio 140 weighs just 45 pounds while delivering the rigidity, glide, and hull efficiency of kayaks twice its price. The efficient hard-chine hull tracks with purpose and turns with ease, rewarding developing paddlers who want to grow their skills without outgrowing their boat. With a 360-pound weight capacity and a fit geared toward medium to large-framed paddlers, it's a versatile hull that handles everything from glassy lake mornings to inshore coastal paddles and Class I–II river runs.
Inside the generous 35" x 18.5" cockpit, the Rio 140 is outfitted for performance and comfort in equal measure. Thigh braces and hip and thigh pads provide the contact points needed for confident edging and control, while the sliding Infinity Seat System adjusts both fore and aft for optimal trim on the water. The ergonomic foot braces are easy to adjust even while underway, and the adjustable backrest offers multiple height and recline positions for all-day support. Recessed deck fittings keep the deck clean and snag-free, while retractable carry handles make transport simple from garage to water's edge.
Two sealed hatches — a 10-inch round bow hatch and a 17-inch narrow oval stern hatch — provide watertight dry storage backed by dual bulkheads for safety flotation. Front deck bungees, rear re-entry lines, and perimeter deck lines complete the fully rigged package, giving the Rio 140 the safety and storage infrastructure of a dedicated touring kayak in a hull that recreational paddlers can immediately feel at home in. For M/L paddlers looking for a high-performance recreational kayak with the confidence to take on more water, the Rio 140 is the natural step up.
The Rio 140 suits medium to large-framed paddlers who want a recreational kayak with more hull length, capacity and control than a shorter hull provides. It is 14 feet, 45 pounds, 25 inches wide and rated to 360 pounds, with an open 35" x 18.5" cockpit, thigh braces and hip and thigh pads for real contact with the boat. Its published paddler size is M/L. It fits paddlers developing their skills who do not want to outgrow a boat in a season.
Length, width and fit separate them. The Rio 140 is 14 feet, 45 pounds, 25 inches wide and rated to 360 pounds, with an M/L cockpit, thigh braces and hip pads. The Eddyline Rio 120 is 11'9", 35 pounds, 24 inches wide and rated to 270 pounds, sized S with a close cockpit. The Sky 120 is 12 feet, 41 pounds, 26 inches wide and rated to 295 pounds, sized S/M with an open cockpit. Paddler size and load should decide first, length second.
The published 360-pound maximum includes the Rio 140 itself, the paddler, and everything carried aboard. The full 360 pounds is therefore not available for you and your gear — the hull's published 45-pound weight is part of that total. Add your own weight, clothing, a life jacket, paddle, water, food, safety gear, dry bags, a cooler, camera equipment or a dog to it. Loading below the maximum generally preserves freeboard, maneuverability and performance, because a hull sitting deeper pushes more water. The rating is a limit, not a target to paddle at.
Yes — the Rio 140 is designed for inshore waters, lakes and ponds, and Class I–II rivers and creeks. Its 14-foot hull and efficient shape help it hold a line on open flatwater, and the thigh braces give the control that moving water rewards. It remains a recreational hull, though, and is not a replacement for a dedicated sea kayak on exposed coastal crossings. Class I–II describes the design's intended range; conditions on any given day are a separate judgment.
Together they turn the Rio 140's recreational cockpit into a connected one. Thigh braces plus hip and thigh pads give three points of contact, so you can edge the hull and hold it there instead of steering with the paddle alone. The adjustable Infinity Seat System sets fore-aft position and trim, and the performance foot braces transfer leg drive into each stroke. Comfort and control both improve when these are adjusted properly, and all are worth resetting after your first hour on the water.
The Rio 140 carries two hatch compartments, one forward and one aft, sitting behind sealed bulkheads that supply flotation as well as storage. Front deck bungees and rear re-entry lines hold items you want within reach, and recessed deck fittings keep the deck free of snag points. The compartments are water-resistant rather than guaranteed dry — condensation and a slightly misaligned cover are common — so anything that must stay dry belongs in a dry bag inside them.
Car-top the Rio 140 with saddles, stackers or J-cradles, cockpit-side down, on its side, or cockpit-up. Snug the straps without over-tightening, add bow and stern lines, and secure loose ends so they cannot flap at speed. Retractable carry handles stow flush for transport. Store the kayak indoors where possible, since prolonged UV exposure degrades the material over years; outdoors, keep it elevated, covered, clean and dry. See Eddyline's owner information.
The Rio 140 carries a three-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, with deck rigging covered for two years. Coverage is limited to the original owner and requires warranty registration. Normal wear, improper use or storage, UV color fading and freight damage are excluded, and the customer pays return transportation, freight and packaging charges on a claim. A product sold as blemished keeps standard coverage apart from the disclosed blemish itself. Full terms are on Eddyline's warranty page.
