Navy Series electric outboard motors are impressively efficient to go further and faster. The Navy 3.0 Evo allows you to collect electricity from wind and water with hydrogeneration function. ePropulsion pioneers in the innovation of electric outboard motors.

The Navy 3.0 Evo has zero operating emissions, delivers instant torque and is corrosion resistant for saltwater use. It is low maintenance rather than maintenance free: the manual sets an anode check or replacement every 100 hours and a propeller and pin check every 200 hours, and asks you to rinse the outboard with fresh water after saltwater use. Charging time is not a property of the motor, because no battery or charger is included — it depends entirely on the battery and charger you pair with it.

The Navy 3.0 Evo is a 3 kW direct-drive electric outboard built for aluminum fishing boats, dinghies, tenders, daysailers and small cruising sailboats in fresh or salt water. It mounts on the transom and acts as the boat's primary propulsion, not as a bow-mount positioning motor.

How much power does the Navy 3.0 Evo produce?

Rated power is 3 kW, with a published 6 HP equivalent for this exact model. That equivalency is a theoretical figure derived from thrust and performance characteristics rather than a measured horsepower rating, so use it to size against a gas outboard rather than as an exact substitution.

Should I choose the Navy 3.0 Evo or the Navy 6.0 Evo?

The difference is rated output and the battery system each one needs. The Navy 3.0 Evo is rated 3 kW with a published 6 HP equivalent, and needs a battery that can supply more than 62.5 A continuous discharge with 3,000 Wh or more of capacity. The ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo is rated 6 kW with a published 9.9 HP equivalent, and calls for more than 125 A and 6,000 Wh or more.

That battery requirement usually decides it rather than the motor price, because the 6.0 needs a substantially larger pack to reach rated output. Match your choice to your hull's motor rating and to the battery your boat can house and wire.

How do I choose between the short and long shaft?

Measure from the top of your transom down to the waterline and choose the shaft that puts the propeller well below the hull without hanging deeper than it needs to. If your measurement sits close to the boundary between the two options, call us at 844-987-5777 and we will confirm the right one for your boat before you order.

Both options are the same motor; only shaft length and weight differ. A shaft that is too short ventilates and loses thrust in chop; one that is too long adds drag and grounding risk. Electric and gas outboards are not measured to the same reference point, so do not carry a gas-outboard shaft designation straight across. The long-shaft motor weighs 27.5 kg (60.6 lb), excluding the battery, which is a separate item; confirm short-shaft weight with us before ordering if that figure matters to your plans.

What comes with the Navy 3.0 Evo, and what do I need to buy separately?

The outboard ships with the propeller already fitted, plus a wrench set, link arm, tiller shaft lanyard and documentation. A control system, a battery and a battery charger are not included and have to be ordered separately — this is a motor unit, not a complete propulsion package.

The Navy 3.0 Evo takes the Evo control range, and we stock the ePropulsion Tiller Handle, the Top Mount Wireless Throttle and the Side Mount control with dash display, all listed as Navy Evo compatible. Package contents can change between production runs, so confirm the exact bundle with us before you buy.

What battery does the Navy 3.0 Evo need?

It runs on a 39 V to 60 V DC supply and needs a battery that can supply more than 62.5 A continuous discharge current, with 3,000 Wh or more of capacity for continuous operation. Lithium and lead-acid batteries can both be used, and the E-Series packs are the recommended match.

Of the E-Series batteries we stock, the E-Series E60 (3,072 Wh, 70 A maximum continuous discharge) and the E-Series E163 (8,345 Wh, 150 A) both meet those figures. One point worth knowing before you commit: hydrogeneration needs an ePropulsion battery connected, so a third-party pack will run the motor but will not recover charge under sail.

What are the published speed and range figures for the Navy 3.0 Evo?

In a controlled test using a 12-foot aluminum boat, one operator, an E80 battery and calm lake conditions, the Navy 3.0 Evo recorded 5.3 mph (8.6 km/h) at 1,000 W for 4 hours and 21.2 miles (34.1 km); 6.3 mph (10.2 km/h) at 2,000 W for 2 hours and 12.6 miles (20.4 km); and 10.2 mph (16.4 km/h) at full 3,000 W for 1 hour 20 minutes and 13.6 miles (21.9 km).

These are published test results rather than a performance guarantee. Hull shape, total load, wind, current, water conditions, propeller depth, battery condition and installation all affect what you will actually see. That test used an E80 battery, which we do not stock, so runtime and range will depend on the battery installed as well as the boat, load and operating conditions. Use the figures to compare power settings against each other.

Does the Navy 3.0 Evo recharge under sail?

Yes. The Navy 3.0 Evo has a hydrogeneration function: water flowing past the hull turns the propeller, and the motor feeds that energy back into the battery while you sail.

Two conditions apply. An ePropulsion battery must be connected — hydrogeneration does not work with a third-party pack — and boat speed must be above 6 km/h. No verified output figure is available for this model, so the amount of recovered energy should not be used for trip planning.

How do I look after the Navy 3.0 Evo in salt water?

Rinse the outboard with fresh water promptly after every saltwater outing, and clean the electrical contacts with contact spray about every two months. Saltwater residue can accelerate corrosion, and corrosion damage is excluded from warranty.

There is scheduled work as well: an anode check or replacement every 100 hours, and a propeller and pin check every 200 hours. With no gearbox oil and no fuel system this is a low-maintenance motor, but it is not a zero-maintenance one.

What warranty covers the Navy 3.0 Evo, and do I need to register it?

Recreational and light commercial use are both covered for 24 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first. Commercial use — any use primarily intended to generate income — is covered for 12 months or 1,000 hours. Consumable parts such as the propeller and anode, ordinary wear, unauthorized modification and corrosion or water-ingress damage are excluded, and remaining coverage transfers with the outboard to a second recreational owner.
