Navy Series electric outboard motors are impressively efficient to go further and faster. The Navy 6.0 Evo allows you to collect electricity from wind and water with hydrogeneration function. ePropulsion pioneers in the innovation of electric outboard motors.

The Navy 6.0 Evo has zero operating emissions, delivers instant torque and is corrosion resistant for saltwater use. It is low maintenance rather than maintenance free: the manual sets a maintenance schedule with checks at 50, 100 and 200 hours and asks you to rinse the outboard with fresh water after saltwater use. Charging time is not a property of the motor, because no battery or charger is included — it depends entirely on the battery and charger you pair with it.

What kind of boat is the ePropulsion Navy 6.0 Evo suited to?

The Navy 6.0 Evo is a 6 kW direct-drive electric outboard for larger aluminum fishing boats, tenders, daysailers and cruising sailboats in fresh or salt water. It is the largest outboard in the Navy Evo range and is built to be a boat's primary propulsion.

Because it draws up to 6 kW, the practical limit is usually the battery bank rather than the hull. Measure your transom height, check your capacity plate's maximum motor rating, and work out whether you can house a pack that meets the motor's discharge requirement. How much power does the Navy 6.0 Evo produce?

Rated power is 6 kW, with a published 9.9 HP equivalent for this exact model. That equivalency is a theoretical figure derived from thrust and performance characteristics rather than a measured horsepower rating, so use it for sizing against a gas outboard rather than as an exact substitution.

The motor is a brushless DC direct drive running on a 39 V to 60 V DC supply with a 48 V rated voltage. Details are on the Navy Evo product page and in the Navy 6.0 Evo user manual.

How is the Navy 6.0 Evo different from the Navy 3.0 Evo?

Output doubles, and the battery requirement roughly doubles with it. The Navy 6.0 Evo is rated 6 kW with a published 9.9 HP equivalent and needs a battery supplying more than 125 A continuous discharge with 6,000 Wh or more to sustain an hour at full power. The ePropulsion Navy 3.0 Evo is rated 3 kW with a published 6 HP equivalent and calls for more than 62.5 A and 3,000 Wh or more.

The 6.0 is also the heavier motor. Choosing between them is mostly a question of what battery bank the boat can house and what that pack can deliver: the 6.0's higher output is only available if the battery can supply 125 A.

Short shaft or long shaft for the Navy 6.0 Evo?

Measure from the top of your transom to the waterline and choose the shaft that puts the propeller well below the hull without hanging deeper than it needs to. If your measurement is close to the boundary between the two options, call us at 844-987-5777 before ordering and we will confirm which one fits your boat.

Both options are the same motor, and the long shaft is the heavier of the two. Motor-only weight varies by shaft length, so confirm the figure for the configuration you are buying; battery weight is separate and is not included in it. A shaft that is too short ventilates and loses thrust in chop; one that is too long adds drag and grounding risk. Electric and gas outboards are not measured to the same reference point, so do not carry a gas-outboard shaft designation straight across.

What is included with the Navy 6.0 Evo?

The outboard ships with the propeller assembly, a wrench set, link arm, tiller shaft, lanyard and documentation. The Evo control system, the battery, the charger and the communication cable are not included. You are buying a motor unit and building the rest of the system around it.

The Evo control range fits this motor, and we stock the ePropulsion Tiller Handle, the Top Mount Wireless Throttle and the Side Mount control with dash display, each listed as Navy Evo compatible. What battery does the Navy 6.0 Evo require?

The supply must be 39 V to 60 V DC, and the battery must be able to deliver more than 125 A continuous discharge current, with 6,000 Wh or more of capacity to give about an hour of running at full power. The E-Series packs are the recommended match.

This is the specification to check most carefully. Of the E-Series batteries we stock, the E-Series E163 (8,345 Wh, 150 A maximum continuous discharge) meets both figures. The E-Series E60 is rated 70 A maximum continuous discharge, below the 125 A this motor calls for, so a single E60 is not a match for running at rated output. What are the published speed and range figures for the Navy 6.0 Evo?

In a controlled test using a 12-foot aluminum boat, one operator, an E175 battery and calm lake conditions, the Navy 6.0 Evo recorded 5 mph (8 km/h) at 1,000 W for 9 hours and 45 miles (72 km); 8 mph (13 km/h) at 3,000 W for 3 hours and 24 miles (39 km); and 15 mph (24.3 km/h) at full 6,000 W for 1 hour 30 minutes and 22.5 miles (36.5 km).

These are published test results rather than a performance guarantee. Hull shape, total load, wind, current, water conditions, propeller depth, battery condition and installation all affect what you will actually see. That test used a light 12-foot hull and an E175 battery, which we do not stock, so a larger hull or a different pack may produce different results. Runtime and range will depend on the battery installed as well as the boat, load and operating conditions.

Does the Navy 6.0 Evo recharge under sail?

Yes. Water flowing past the hull turns the propeller and the motor feeds that energy back into the battery, which is useful on a cruising sailboat that motors out and sails home.

Hydrogeneration needs an ePropulsion battery connected, and all of the following must be true: the Evo system enabled, the throttle at zero, the battery below 90% charge, and boat speed above 6 km/h for at least four seconds. No verified output figure is available for this model, so the amount of recovered energy should not be used for trip planning.

How do I look after the Navy 6.0 Evo in salt water?

Rinse the outboard with fresh water promptly after saltwater use, and clean the electrical contacts with contact spray about every two months. Corrosion and water-ingress damage are excluded from warranty, so the rinse routine is not optional.

There is also a scheduled maintenance interval, with checks at 50, 100 and 200 hours. No gearbox oil and no fuel system mean less routine work than a gas outboard, but this is a low-maintenance motor rather than a zero-maintenance one.

What warranty covers the Navy 6.0 Evo, and do I need to register it?

Recreational and light commercial use are both covered for 24 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first. Commercial use — any use primarily intended to generate income — is covered for 12 months or 1,000 hours. Consumable parts such as the propeller and anode, ordinary wear, unauthorized modification and corrosion or water-ingress damage are excluded, and remaining coverage transfers with the outboard to a second recreational owner.
