Tiller Version: The Spirit 2 features a redesigned full-color display that is larger and easier to view than the screen found on the Spirit 1.0 Plus. In addition to improved visibility, the upgraded interface provides access to a wider range of operating data and customization options. Users can adjust screen brightness, switch between day and night viewing modes, review system error history, track motor runtime hours, view hardware and software information, and set maximum power limits for both forward and reverse operation.
Remote Version: At this time, remote-control versions of the Spirit 2 do not support Boost Mode or several of the newer advanced features available on tiller-controlled models. The current remote-control options provide a more limited feature set, and the menu system differs from the tiller version. Remote users currently cannot access functions such as Boost Mode, power output limiting, kill switch override, total motor hour tracking, and certain other settings. ePropulsion is actively developing next-generation control systems that are expected to support these features; however, a release timeline has not yet been announced.

To determine the correct shaft length, measure from the top of your transom to the waterline.

Extra Short: for transoms of 30-40 cm / 11.8-15.7" - small inflatables and dinghies. Tiller configuration only.

Short: for transoms of 40-50 cm / 15.7-19.7" - most dinghies and some sailboats.

Keep in mind that ePropulsion measures shaft length differently than traditional gas outboards. On an ePropulsion electric outboard, the shaft length is determined by measuring from the top of the clamp bracket to the center of the propeller. On a gas outboard, however, the measurement is taken from the top of the clamp bracket down to the anti-ventilation plate.

Frequently Asked Questions About the ePropulsion Spirit 2
Who is the ePropulsion Spirit 2 for, and how much power does it produce?
The Spirit 2 is a 2 kW electric outboard with its battery included in the package, built for dinghies, tenders, day cruisers and small sailboats. It is the fourth generation of the Spirit line and sits between the small eLite and the much larger Navy Evo motors, suiting owners who want a complete propulsion package in one purchase and sailors who want hydrogeneration.
Nominal output is 2 kW, and Boost Mode raises that to 3 kW — but only on the tiller version. Order a remote-control configuration and Boost Mode is not available at all. On a tiller model, Boost increases output 1.5 times for up to 60 seconds, needs at least 20% state of charge, no active faults and temperature within limits, and drops out automatically if any of those change. Details are in the current Spirit 2 manual.
What is the difference between the tiller and remote-control Spirit 2?
The tiller version has a twist-grip throttle and a full-color display built into the tiller arm, and it is the only configuration with Boost Mode. It also opens up the fuller menu: power limits for forward and reverse, screen brightness, day and night modes, error history and motor hour tracking.
The remote configurations are for boats steered from a wheel or a console. Top mount fits a horizontal surface and runs wired or wireless; side mount is flush-fitted to a vertical surface, includes its own display with a cover, and is wired only. Current remote controls do not offer Boost Mode, power output limiting, kill switch override or motor hour tracking, and the extra-short shaft is not offered with a remote. Choose on what the control does today.
Which shaft length should I choose for the Spirit 2?
Measure from the top of your transom down to the waterline. Extra short suits transoms of 30 to 40 cm (11.8 to 15.7 in), short suits 40 to 50 cm (15.7 to 19.7 in), and long suits transoms higher than 50 cm (19.7 in). Extra short fits small inflatables and dinghies; long fits jon boats and most sailboats.
Two things to watch. The extra-short shaft is only offered in the tiller configuration. And electric and gas outboards are not measured to the same reference point, so a gas-outboard shaft designation does not transfer. If your measurement is near a boundary, call us at 844-987-5777.
Is the Spirit Battery Ultra included with the Spirit 2?
Yes. Every Spirit 2 configuration we list ships with the Spirit Battery Ultra, a 1,539 Wh, 48.1 V lithium-ion pack, and with its charger. That applies to the tiller and remote versions alike, so this is a complete propulsion package rather than a motor unit.
The battery weighs 10.4 kg, is rated IP67 and is rated for 1,000 cycles to 80% state of health. It clips on without a power cable, and its own indicator shows charge level with the motor switched off, so you can check state of charge before rigging the boat.
How is the Spirit 2 charged, and can I add an external battery?
The included standard charger gives a full charge in about eight hours; an optional fast charger does it in about two. Charging is permitted from -15 to 60 degrees C, and charging below 0 degrees C requires the fast charger, which carries the battery communication function needed at low temperature.
For longer range the Spirit 2 accepts an external ePropulsion E-Series battery, and we stock the E-Series E60 (3,072 Wh) and E-Series E163 (8,345 Wh). Any external pack must be 30 V to 60 V, deliver at least 45 A continuous discharge and have pre-charge capability limited to 30 A. Only the Spirit Battery Ultra and E-Series batteries support hydrogeneration.
What are the published speed and range figures for the Spirit 2?
In a controlled test using an 11.5-foot aluminum boat weighing 65 kg, one person aboard, one Spirit battery and calm lake water, the Spirit 2 recorded 4.6 mph (7.4 km/h) at 500 W for 3 hours and 13 miles (21 km); 6 mph (9.6 km/h) at 1,000 W for 1 hour 48 minutes and 9.6 miles (15.4 km); and 10.9 mph (17.5 km/h) at the full 2,000 W for 54 minutes and 8.1 miles (13 km). Boost Mode at 3,000 W recorded 13 mph (21 km/h), and runs a maximum of 60 seconds, so no sustained runtime or range applies to it.
These are published test results rather than a performance guarantee. Hull shape, total load, wind, current, water conditions, propeller depth, battery condition and installation all affect what you will actually see. A heavier tender, additional passenger or different hull may produce different results.
Does the Spirit 2 recharge while sailing?
Yes, and the Spirit 2 is the one model in this range with published hydrogeneration output. It operates between about 3 and 16 knots, generating roughly 380 W at 10 knots and up to 1.5 kW at 16 knots. The display shows the hydrogeneration icon, elapsed time and output while it runs.
It engages with the throttle in neutral, the battery below 90% charge, and the boat holding a steady 6 km/h or more (or the propeller turning at 400 rpm or more) for at least three seconds. It works only with a Spirit Battery Ultra or an E-Series battery connected. What you actually generate depends on hull speed, sail trim and sea state.
How much does the Spirit 2 weigh?
The tiller motor is approximately 22 to 23 lb (10.1 to 10.6 kg) depending on shaft length, and the remote motor is lighter at approximately 20 to 21 lb (9.2 to 9.5 kg). Bracket weight is separate: 2.6 kg on the tiller version and 3.0 kg on the remote.
The Spirit Battery Ultra adds 10.4 kg and detaches, so the motor and the battery are handled as two separate items rather than one. If exact weight matters for your mounting or transport plan, contact us and we will confirm it for the configuration you are buying.
How do I look after the Spirit 2 in salt water?
Rinse the outboard with fresh water promptly after saltwater use, and again before storage. Clean the electrical contacts with contact cleaner every two months, and immediately if you see rust. Corrosion and seawater-intrusion damage are excluded from warranty.
The service interval is every 100 hours or six months, covering propeller and pin checks, anode inspection, and lubrication with waterproof grease at specified points. The battery is IP67 rated and detaches, so it can be stored separately from the motor.
What warranty covers the Spirit 2, and do I need to register it?
Recreational and light commercial use are both covered for 24 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first. Commercial use — any use primarily intended to generate income — is covered for 12 months or 1,000 hours. Consumable parts such as the propeller and anode, ordinary wear, unauthorized modification and corrosion or water-ingress damage are excluded, and remaining coverage transfers with the outboard to a second recreational owner. Full conditions are in the current ePropulsion warranty terms. A claim must be raised within 15 days of discovering the defect, with proof of purchase or a completed registration.
