Hobie Mirage Compass Kayak Features

Excellent Hull Performance: The durable polyethylene hull hits the sweet spot between tracking and maneuverability. The oversize cockpit includes plenty of flat deck area for standing.

MirageDrive Powered: The forward and reversing MirageDrive 180 pedal propulsion system with Kick-Up Fins features legendary bioengineered performance.

Accessory Ready: H-Track accessory mounts provide no-drill customization for the utmost rigging flexibility.

8" Round Twist and Seal Hatch

Easy Steering System: When you want to paddle or need to transport your Compass on shore, the spring-loaded rudder folds flush. Automatically kicks up if you hit something. Easy grip rudder handle provides fingertip steering.

Storage Abounds: Bring your favorite gear along, including an H-Crate or Livewell. There's plenty of room in the mesh-covered bow storage area, stern storage area with Bungee tie-downs, and the 8-inch round Twist and Seal cockpit hatch.

Molded-in Carrying Handles: Located midship, these handles are ergonomic and conveniently placed to make car topping a breeze. Bow and Stern handle help with transport to and from the water.

Lowrance Ready System: The Hobie Mirage Compass comes standard with a built-in transducer mount and includes through-hull cable plugs. (Lawrance Transducer not included)

Power-Pole Micro Integration: Brass inserts in the stern accept Hobie’s mounting plate for a Power-Pole Micro shallow water anchor.

Two Rod Holders: The Compass comes ready to fish from the factory.

Drink Holder: Keep your drink close at hand.

Sleek Yet Stable Hull Shape: A freshly designed bow cuts through the wind, wake and chop with ease. The spacious and extra wide deck provides comfort and security for even the most novice of kayakers.

Kick-Up Rudder & Molded-in Tracking Keel: The Kick-Up Rudder locks in to place when you need it and retracts on impact. A molded-in tracking keel keeps you on the course, whether pedaling or paddling.

Optimal Seating Design: The breathable mesh fabric is adjustable for comfort. Mounted at an ideal height for fishing, there's room for tackle storage underneath. Easily removable for use onshore.

Two-Piece Paddle: Negotiate surf-strewn beaches and rocky inlets with the included Two-Piece Paddle with Fiberglass Shaft.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Hobie Mirage Compass

Who is the Compass best suited to?

Paddlers who want a Hobie pedal kayak at a lower weight and price than the Pro Angler hulls. It is 12 ft long, 34 in wide, and 68 lb fitted.

It suits lakes, slower rivers, bays and protected coastal water. For heavy electronics and tackle rigging, the Pro Angler hulls carry more.

Conditions decide what any given day allows: wind, current, chop, water temperature and how the kayak is loaded. Build up from water you know.

Which MirageDrive comes with it, and does it have reverse?

It comes with the MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins.

That drive gives forward and reverse. Pulling the shift cable flips the fins, so the same pedaling motion backs the kayak off a snag without turning the hull.

Confirm the drive against the current model-year package before ordering.

What are the dimensions and transport weights?

Length 12', width 34 in. Fitted hull weight 68 lb, fully rigged 87 lb.

Remove the drive and the seat before road transport. Support the hull evenly, keep strap tension moderate, and store the kayak off its cart.

Confirm the load ratings of your vehicle, crossbars and rack before buying rack hardware.

How much can the Hobie Mirage Compass carry?

Carrying capacity is 400 lb, with a separate 275 lb seat capacity. The first covers the kayak, the second is the limit for the seat.

Fitted hull weight is 68 lb and fully rigged weight is 87 lb — fitted is the hull as supplied, fully rigged includes the drive, seat and standard equipment. Work to the carrying capacity and leave margin under it.

Is it stable enough to stand and fish from?

It is 34 in wide on a 12' hull.

A flat deck is provided for standing. No standing-specific weight limit or sea-state qualification is specified, so treat standing as a function of your balance, your load and the conditions.

Try it in shallow, calm water close to shore before relying on it.

How does it handle shallow water?

Kick-Up Fins retract on impact, so shallow water and submerged structure are far less likely to damage them. They reduce impact damage rather than removing the risk — raise the drive before crossing anything you can see.

No minimum operating depth is specified. Raise the drive when the fins are close to touching and paddle through.

Retract the drive and rudder before beaching. Damage from beaching with either one down is excluded from warranty coverage.

What comes with it?

The MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins, the seat supplied with this model, an 8 in twist-and-seal hatch and kick-up rudder with a molded-in tracking keel. A seat model name is not specified for this kayak.

A two-piece paddle with a fiberglass shaft is included.

A cart, fishfinder, motor and Power-Pole are all sold separately. Check what a given accessory weighs before you buy it — it comes out of the 400 lb carrying capacity.

Can I fit a fishfinder, accessories or a motor?

Built-in provisions: H-Track accessory mounts, transducer cavity for a Lowrance fishfinder, Power-Pole Micro integration. These are mounting points and cavities in the hull; the hardware itself is sold separately.

No motor mounting provision is specified for this hull, and no motor, battery or wiring is included.

How do I care for it, and what warranty applies?

Rinse the hull, drive, rudder and fittings with fresh water after saltwater use, working the drive through its range as you rinse. Store it out of direct sun and support the hull evenly rather than on one hard point — prolonged sun exposure and improper support are both warranty exclusions.

Eligible 2019-and-later hard-shell kayaks carry a three-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Remaining coverage is transferable if the kayak is sold, and a replacement hull carries one year — never less than the remainder of the original three-year term.

Claims are initiated through the authorized dealer the kayak was purchased from, within 30 days of discovering the defect, with proof of purchase. If you bought here, that is us.
