Hobie Mirage Compass Kayak Features
Excellent Hull Performance: The durable polyethylene hull hits the sweet spot between tracking and maneuverability. The oversize cockpit includes plenty of flat deck area for standing.
MirageDrive Powered: The forward and reversing MirageDrive 180 pedal propulsion system with Kick-Up Fins features legendary bioengineered performance.
Accessory Ready: H-Track accessory mounts provide no-drill customization for the utmost rigging flexibility.
8" Round Twist and Seal Hatch
Easy Steering System: When you want to paddle or need to transport your Compass on shore, the spring-loaded rudder folds flush. Automatically kicks up if you hit something. Easy grip rudder handle provides fingertip steering.
Storage Abounds: Bring your favorite gear along, including an H-Crate or Livewell. There's plenty of room in the mesh-covered bow storage area, stern storage area with Bungee tie-downs, and the 8-inch round Twist and Seal cockpit hatch.
Molded-in Carrying Handles: Located midship, these handles are ergonomic and conveniently placed to make car topping a breeze. Bow and Stern handle help with transport to and from the water.
Lowrance Ready System: The Hobie Mirage Compass comes standard with a built-in transducer mount and includes through-hull cable plugs. (Lawrance Transducer not included)
Power-Pole Micro Integration: Brass inserts in the stern accept Hobie’s mounting plate for a Power-Pole Micro shallow water anchor.
Two Rod Holders: The Compass comes ready to fish from the factory.
Drink Holder: Keep your drink close at hand.
Sleek Yet Stable Hull Shape: A freshly designed bow cuts through the wind, wake and chop with ease. The spacious and extra wide deck provides comfort and security for even the most novice of kayakers.
Kick-Up Rudder & Molded-in Tracking Keel: The Kick-Up Rudder locks in to place when you need it and retracts on impact. A molded-in tracking keel keeps you on the course, whether pedaling or paddling.
Optimal Seating Design: The breathable mesh fabric is adjustable for comfort. Mounted at an ideal height for fishing, there's room for tackle storage underneath. Easily removable for use onshore.
Two-Piece Paddle: Negotiate surf-strewn beaches and rocky inlets with the included Two-Piece Paddle with Fiberglass Shaft.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Hobie Mirage Compass
Who is the Hobie Mirage Compass designed for?
The Hobie Mirage Compass suits anglers who want pedal power in a 68 lb hull rather than a Pro Angler at over 100 lb.
At 12 ft long and 34 in wide it carries 400 lb and fits lakes, slower rivers, bays and protected coastal water. The flat deck and two pre-installed rod holders cover light fishing; for a heavy electronics and tackle load, a wider hull gives you more room to work.
Which MirageDrive does the Hobie Mirage Compass use, and does it have reverse?
The Hobie Mirage Compass uses the MirageDrive 180 with Kick-Up Fins, which pedals both forward and reverse.
Pulling the shift cable flips the fins, so the same pedaling motion backs the hull off a snag or away from a dock without turning it around. The fins retract when they strike something and redeploy on their own, which matters on rocky lake beds and shallow river runs.
What are the dimensions and weights of the Hobie Mirage Compass?
The Hobie Mirage Compass is 12 ft long and 34 in wide, weighing 68 lb fitted and 87 lb fully rigged.
Fitted weight covers the hull and its permanently attached features; fully rigged adds the removable standard equipment, including the seat and the MirageDrive. Removing those before transport is what takes the load from 87 lb to 68 lb. Check your crossbar and rack ratings before buying hardware.
How much weight can the Hobie Mirage Compass carry?
The Hobie Mirage Compass has a published 400 lb capacity and a separate 275 lb seat capacity.
The two figures are published separately and are not interchangeable: the seat rating applies to the occupant, the overall capacity to the loaded kayak. Check the seat rating against the person using it, and leave practical margin below 400 lb after accounting for the people and gear carried.
Can you stand up and fish from the Hobie Mirage Compass?
The Hobie Mirage Compass has a flat deck built for standing, on a hull 34 in wide and 12 ft long.
No standing-specific limit or sea-state qualification is published, so standing depends on your balance, how the kayak is loaded and the conditions on the day. Judge it conservatively, and stay seated when the water is not calm.
How does the Hobie Mirage Compass handle shallow water?
The Hobie Mirage Compass uses Kick-Up Fins that retract on impact and redeploy once clear. Its Kick-Up Rudder retracts when it contacts solid ground or debris.
No minimum operating depth is published. Raise the drive when the fins start touching bottom and paddle through. Retract the drive and rudder before beaching: damage from hitting submerged objects or beaching without retracting them is excluded from warranty coverage.
What comes with the Hobie Mirage Compass?
The Hobie Mirage Compass ships with the MirageDrive 180, an anodized aluminum-frame seat, a two-piece paddle, two rod holders, an 8 in Twist and Seal hatch and a drink holder.
A seat model name is not published for this kayak. H-Track mounts, a transducer cavity and Power-Pole Micro integration are molded in, but the fishfinder, anchor, cart and any motor are sold separately, and each one eats into the 400 lb capacity.
Can you fit a fishfinder, accessories or a motor to the Hobie Mirage Compass?
The Hobie Mirage Compass is built for a fishfinder and accessories: H-Track mounts, a transducer cavity for a Lowrance unit and Power-Pole Micro integration are molded into the hull.
Those are mounting points, not hardware, so the fishfinder, transducer and anchor are bought separately. No motor mounting provision is published for this hull, and no motor, battery or wiring is supplied. Weigh anything you add against the 400 lb capacity.
How do you care for the Hobie Mirage Compass, and what warranty applies?
Rinse the Hobie Mirage Compass, drive, rudder and fittings with fresh water after saltwater use. Store it out of direct sun, supported evenly rather than on one hard point.
Eligible 2019-and-later hard-shell kayaks carry a three-year Hobie kayak warranty. Take the kayak and proof of purchase to the authorized dealer you bought it from within 30 days of finding a defect, or to the nearest dealer if you have moved or are traveling.
