Who is the iTrek Angler 12 best suited to?

Anglers who want the fishing-rigged inflatable with more length and capacity. It is 12 ft and carries 500 lb against the Angler 10's 400 lb, on the same 44 in width.

It suits lakes, slower rivers and protected water where you cover distance between spots, and it packs into the same size bag as the Angler 10.

Judge each trip on the conditions rather than the specification, and work up to exposed water gradually.

Which drive does it use, and does it have reverse?

It uses the MirageDrive 180 with Turbo Kick-Up Fins — the fishing drive, not the forward-oriented GT fitted to the recreational iTrek models.

It provides forward and reverse. The shorter left handle drives forward and the longer right handle drives in reverse.

Kick-Up Fins retract on impact, so shallow water and submerged structure are far less likely to damage them. They reduce impact damage rather than removing the risk — raise the drive before crossing anything you can see.

What is the difference between the Angler 10 and the Angler 12?

Length and capacity. This one is 12 ft and carries 500 lb. Both are 44 in wide and both pack into the same size bag.

The longer hull tracks better and carries more; the shorter one turns more easily and weighs less to carry. Fitted weight here is 37 lb.

What are the dimensions, weight and capacity?

Carrying capacity is 500 lb.

Fitted hull weight is 37 lb and fully rigged weight is 53 lb — fitted is the hull as supplied, fully rigged includes the drive, seat and standard equipment. Work to the carrying capacity and leave margin under it.

How big is it packed?

Inflated, it measures 12 ft by 44 in. Packed, the bag is 33.5 x 24.6 x 15.75 in.

Fitted hull weight is 37 lb and fully rigged weight is 53 lb. It stores and transports in the bag rather than on a rack.

No airline-travel claim is made for this model. Check the packed dimensions and weight against your carrier's published size and weight limits before planning a trip.

What comes with it?

In the box: a manual high-pressure pump, an electric pump, a four-piece paddle, the seat, steering, H-Rails with two rod racks and a rod holder, a cup holder, a hex key, a cassette plug and a repair kit.

A four-piece paddle is included.

A pressure gauge is not listed. Since the electric pump alone reaches only about 1 PSI, one is worth adding.

Can I fit a fishfinder and rod holders?

It comes with H-Rails carrying the integrated RAM Hand-Track, two H-Rail rod racks and a rod holder, so rod and accessory mounting is built in.

It also has three removable rudder and mounting positions. When a motor mount occupies the center gudgeon, the rudder moves to the left or right position.

A dedicated transducer mount is not specified for this model. Confirm your fishfinder plan with us before buying hardware.

Is it motor-ready? Can I fit a Power-Pole?

Yes. It has a stern motor-ready design with a Motor/PowerPole mount — four 1/4-20 threaded inserts at the stern. The published limit is a maximum 1.3 kW motor.

The motor, battery, wiring, Power-Pole and mounting hardware are not included. The kayak supplies the threaded inserts; everything else is sold separately, and its weight counts against the 500 lb carrying capacity.

Registration requirements for a motorized vessel vary by state and change over time. Check with your own state boating agency before the first trip.

How do I inflate, dry and store it?

An inflation pressure is not specified for this model in Hobie's Angler manual. The pressure recommendation is printed at the valve on the kayak — use that figure, and do not apply pressures quoted for the other iTrek models.

The supplied electric pump reaches about 1 PSI, which is not enough pressure to use the kayak. Finish with the hand pump.

What warranty applies?

It is built on a three-chamber 550 denier PVC hull. That is a durable material, though no inflatable is immune to punctures — keep it off sharp gravel at the launch and keep hooks and knives controlled aboard.

Inflatable kayaks carry a two-year warranty — not the three years that applies to Hobie's rotomolded hulls. Remaining coverage is transferable if the kayak is sold.

Claims are initiated through the authorized dealer the kayak was purchased from, within 30 days of discovering the defect, with proof of purchase.
