Frequently Asked Questions About the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12 360XR
Who is the Pro Angler 12 360XR best suited to?
Anglers who want the 360 drive on the shorter Pro Angler hull, and who intend to run motors, Power-Poles and electronics alongside pedal power.
It suits lakes, reservoirs, bays and protected inshore water where working an area matters more than covering distance.
Wind, current and water temperature govern what is sensible on the day, not the dimensions. Start on familiar water.
How does it differ from the standard MirageDrive 180 model?
Same hull dimensions as the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12, different drive and rigging. This model carries the MirageDrive 360 Turbo with Kick-Up Fin technology; the standard model carries the MirageDrive 180 Turbo, which gives forward and reverse only.
It is also heavier, at 109.5 lb fitted and 132.5 lb fully rigged.
No manufacturer-approved retrofit path is currently documented. Do not purchase a standard Pro Angler with the assumption that it can later be converted to 360XR.
How does the 360 drive steer?
A handle rotates the entire lower unit of the drive, and an indicator arrow shows where it is pointed. A lock knob holds it in the forward or back position.
Thrust goes where you aim it, so the kayak can be moved sideways or spun without turning the hull first.
It is aimed by hand each time, and it does not hold a position — no station-keeping function is specified. That is what the Power-Pole provisions are for.
What are the dimensions and weights?
Length 12 ft, width 36 in, height 20 in. Fitted hull weight 109.5 lb, fully rigged 132.5 lb.
Remove the drive and the seat before road transport. Support the hull evenly, keep strap tension moderate, and store the kayak off its cart.
Confirm the load ratings of your vehicle, crossbars and rack before buying rack hardware.
How much can the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12 360XR carry?
Carrying capacity is 500 lb, with a separate 350 lb seat capacity. The first covers the kayak, the second is the limit for the seat.
Fitted hull weight is 109.5 lb and fully rigged weight is 132.5 lb — fitted is the hull as supplied, fully rigged includes the drive, seat and standard equipment. Work to the carrying capacity and leave margin under it.
Can I stand and fish from it?
It is 36 in wide, which is what the deck space is built on.
Standing is not described for this model, and no standing-specific weight limit is specified. The published stability language refers to hull width only. The 14 ft version of this kayak does carry a standing-platform description; this one does not.
Try standing in shallow, calm water before relying on it.
How does it handle electronics and transducers?
It has the Guardian retractable transducer shield, which protects the transducer on impact and retracts for transport. The built-in transducer mount allows side scanning.
That is a meaningful step up from a plain transducer cavity: the transducer sits on a mount that moves out of the way instead of being the first thing to strike a rock.
The shield, mount and wire management are part of the kayak. The fishfinder itself is sold separately.
Is it motor-ready, and can I fit Power-Poles?
The hull provides bow or stern mounted motors, with wire management, battery storage, three H-plates, two three-way thru-hull plugs and a Hobie Powerwall, plus provision to host up to two Power-Poles.
No motor, battery, wiring, mount or Power-Pole is included. The kayak supplies the provisions; the hardware is sold separately, and everything added counts against the 500 lb carrying capacity.
Registration requirements for a motorized vessel vary by state and change over time. Check with your own state boating agency before the first trip.
How do I transport and store it?
Remove the drive and the seat before road transport. Support the hull evenly, keep strap tension moderate, and store the kayak off its cart.
Confirm the load ratings of your vehicle, crossbars and rack before buying rack hardware.
At 132.5 lb fully rigged, a cart is close to essential and a trailer is a practical alternative. A cart is sold separately.
What warranty applies to the hull, drive and components?
Eligible 2019-and-later hard-shell kayaks carry a three-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Remaining coverage is transferable if the kayak is sold, and a replacement hull carries one year — never less than the remainder of the original three-year term.
Claims are initiated through the authorized dealer the kayak was purchased from, within 30 days of discovering the defect, with proof of purchase. If you bought here, that is us.
Excluded: normal wear, damage from beaching without retracting the drive and rudder, improper support during transport or storage, prolonged sun exposure, alterations, and rental or commercial use.
