KISTLER Hunt BFS Fishing Rod
The KISTLER Hunt BFS Fishing Rod series is the vision of Trey Kistler and BFS fishing expert Aaron Hunt, built around Bait Finesse System (BFS) technology developed in Japan. BFS lets anglers cast small, light lures on baitcasting gear, techniques normally reserved for a spinning rod, to target bass, panfish, crappie, and trout that have grown pressured in popular fisheries.
The blank is KISTLER's KC8+ 100% Japanese carbon by Toray, high modulus, paired with Fuji Alconite ring guides using tangle-free K-frame stainless steel micro guides and a Fuji trigger reel seat. The handle is full cork "A" grade with an EVA butt cap, and every model carries the Kistler hook-hanger and a moderate-fast action. The rods are built by hand in Texas.
The Hunt BFS lineup spans 5 casting-only models from 6'0" to 7'0", across 2X-Ultra-Lite through 4X-Ultra-Lite power ratings, built for lures as light as 1/64 oz (see the comparison chart below for exact line and lure ratings per model).

Hunt BFS Rod FAQs
What is the KISTLER Hunt BFS Fishing Rod, and what does BFS stand for?
BFS stands for Bait Finesse System, a technique developed in Japan that lets anglers cast small, light lures on baitcasting gear, the kind of casting normally done on a spinning rod. This series is the vision of Trey Kistler and BFS fishing expert Aaron Hunt, built to target pressured bass, panfish, crappie, and trout with lures too light for conventional casting rods.
Every model carries the Kistler hook-hanger and a moderate-fast action, built by hand in Texas.
How do I choose the right KISTLER Hunt BFS model?
The lineup spans 5 casting-only models from 6'0" to 7'0", across 2X-Ultra-Lite, 3X-Ultra-Lite, and 4X-Ultra-Lite power ratings. The 3X-Ultra-Lite and 4X-Ultra-Lite ratings each come in two lengths, so you can size the rod to the water and cover you're fishing as well as the lure weight.
The exact line and lure weight ratings for every model are in the comparison chart above.
What line and lures does the KISTLER Hunt BFS lineup handle?
Line ratings run 1-12 lb depending on power, from 1-6 lb on the 4X-Ultra-Lite models up to 6-12 lb on the 2X-Ultra-Lite. Lure weights run as light as 1/64 oz (0.5g) up to 3/8 oz (10g) on the heaviest model, sized for the small lures BFS casting is built around.
