Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Ultimate Angler package?

Both versions include the MegaSport base trailer, two sets of kayak carriers in the style you select, a full-size spare tire with locking attachment, a wire storage basket, an aluminum diamond plate storage drawer on rollers, a second tier load bar system, two telescoping fishing rod storage tubes, a milk crate cage, and the instruction manuals with registration paperwork.

The bunks version also ships with a pair of 15-foot straps. This is the most fully equipped two-boat MegaSport configuration we list.

Bunks or SaddleUp Pro — which suits my boats?

Padded 84-inch bunks support a hull along a long run of its length, which is what large, heavy, fully rigged fishing kayaks need — and what flat and pontoon-style bottoms need in particular.

SaddleUp Pro carriers cradle the boat at set points and conform well to tri-hull, center-keel and other irregular bottoms. They load quickly and use less bar width.

Hull shape decides this, not boat length or weight alone. Tell us the make and model of both kayaks and we will confirm which version actually supports them. Contact our team or call 844-987-5777.

What is all the storage for, and how much does it hold?

The storage drawer slides out from under the boats, so you reach tackle without unloading the kayaks. The wire basket is for wet gear — anchors, ropes, waders, anything you would rather not put in a closed box. The rod tubes each protect up to six oversized rods. The milk crate cage holds up to five standard crates with a 100-pound total capacity.

Those component limits are caps on the components. Everything they hold still counts against the trailer's 1,000-pound total.

How much can it carry with two boats and all the gear?

The trailer's 1,000-pound rating is the controlling limit and covers the entire load at once: both kayaks, both carrier sets, the second tier, the storage drawer, wire basket, rod tubes, crate cage, spare tire, straps and everything you put inside any of it.

This package fills a real share of that budget before a boat goes on. Weigh the load as you actually travel with it rather than estimating — a rigged fishing kayak with battery and tackle is heavier than the bare hull weight suggests. Component ratings never add to the trailer's total, and tow vehicle and hitch limits apply separately.

What hitch hardware does it need?

The trailer coupler requires a 2-inch-diameter hitch ball, and the top of that ball should sit 16 inches from the ground so the trailer tows level. That is the trailer's side of the connection. The electrical connection is a standard 4-pin connector.

Your vehicle needs a hitch with a receiver, a ball mount that fits that receiver, and a 2-inch ball fitted to the ball mount. A receiver does not take a ball directly, and receiver size is a separate matter from ball diameter — a 2-inch ball does not mean you need a 2-inch receiver. Hitch, receiver, ball mount, ball and tow vehicle must each be rated for the loaded trailer, and the lowest rating in that chain governs.

Unloaded tongue weight is 63 pounds before any gear goes on, and a fully loaded Ultimate Angler is a substantial tow.

Does it require assembly?

Yes, and this is one of the longest builds in the range because of everything that mounts to the trailer. The chassis goes together first, then the second tier, carriers, drawer, basket, rod tubes, crate cage and spare tire.

It arrives as a multi-boxed item and the carton count differs between the two versions. Shipping method can vary too. Check the whole shipment against the supplied documentation before starting, keep the paperwork envelope, and report anything missing or damaged promptly at sales@ecofishingshop.com.

How should the load be distributed on a trailer this loaded?

Boats centered over the axle and balanced side to side, heaviest items low, and lighter bulky items on the upper tier. A loaded storage drawer under the boats sits low and helps stability; the same weight in a tier-mounted box does not.

Strap each boat at its carrier contact points, add bow and stern lines, and secure the crate cage contents so nothing shifts. Recheck everything after the first few miles and at each stop, and re-verify tongue weight whenever you change how the trailer is packed.

What maintenance does it need?

Pre-trip: lights, coupler and pin, crossed safety chains, lug nuts, condition of all three tires including the spare, drawer and cage latches, and every strap. Service the wheel bearings on the schedule in your documentation. Rinse frame, wheels, carriers, drawer rollers, basket and cage with fresh water after salt water or road salt, and re-check accessory mounting hardware periodically.

Inflate to the Malone-recommended cold pressure for this trailer, 35 to 40 PSI, checked before towing while the tires are cold, and follow the trailer documentation and current manufacturer specification. A sidewall maximum is not the recommended operating pressure — read the sidewall for tire size, load range and maximum limits, not for the figure to inflate to.

What warranty applies, and what do I need to register?

A five-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the original retail purchaser, subject to the written exclusions. Normal wear, corrosion, accidents, misuse, overloading and problems traced to assembly errors are excluded, and no claim outcome can be promised in advance. Register with Malone within 30 days of purchase and keep your original receipt.

Warranty registration is separate from registering the trailer with your state for road use. Requirements vary — check with your state motor vehicle agency.
