What is included in the four-kayak package?

Both versions include the MicroSport base trailer with 78-inch load bars, a full-size 12-inch spare tire with locking attachment, the carriers for the style you select, and the instruction manuals with registration paperwork.

The stacker version adds two stacker carriers with mounting hardware and straps, plus four sets of 18-inch rack pads to protect hulls from bar abrasion. The J-rack version supplies four sets of J-style carriers with hardware and straps instead.

Stackers or four sets of J-racks — which suits my boats?

Stackers carry boats on edge against vertical uprights, with rack pads cushioning hulls that rest on the bars. It is the more compact and generally the more affordable route, and it works best with traditional V-style recreational hulls.

Four sets of J-cradles give each boat its own dedicated support, which is easier to load one boat at a time and more forgiving if your four kayaks are different shapes and sizes.

Wide sit-on-tops and heavy fishing hulls sit poorly on edge and are better suited to cradles, saddles or bunks. If your four boats are a mixed fleet, tell us what they are and we will say which version handles them.

Can it carry four kayaks at once?

It is configured for four boats up to 20 feet, but the trailer's 800-pound total rating is what decides any given load. Four kayaks, all four carrier sets, the spare tire, rack pads, straps and gear all draw on that same 800 pounds.

Work from measured weights: weigh each boat as you travel with it, add the hardware and gear, and compare the total against 800 pounds. Four recreational kayaks at 55 to 70 pounds each leaves headroom; four rigged fishing kayaks may not. Carrier ratings do not raise the trailer's limit, and a fourth carrier is not a fourth allowance.

How do I fit four boats across 78-inch bars?

Beam is the constraint, not length. Four narrow touring kayaks fit easily; four 34-inch-wide sit-on-tops will not, whichever carrier style you choose. Stackers help by turning boats on edge so each takes up far less bar width.

The 44-to-63-inch adjustable bar spread lets you move support points fore and aft to suit the hulls. Measure the beam of every boat, add a little clearance between hulls and hardware, and contact our team if the arithmetic looks tight.

How should a four-boat load be balanced and secured?

Keep it symmetrical. Two boats per side, heavier hulls low and inboard, and the whole load centered over the axle. An uneven four-boat load is far more noticeable at speed than an uneven pair.

Strap every boat individually at its contact points rather than banding pairs together, and add bow and stern lines for the longer hulls. Recheck every strap after the first few miles and at each stop — a tall, multi-boat load settles more than a flat one.

What hitch hardware does it need?

The trailer coupler requires a 2-inch-diameter hitch ball, and the top of that ball should sit 18 inches from the ground so the trailer tows level. That is the trailer's side of the connection. Lighting is a DOT-approved plug-and-play LED kit, so confirm your vehicle's connector matches or plan for an adapter.

Your vehicle needs a hitch with a receiver, a ball mount that fits that receiver, and a 2-inch ball fitted to the ball mount. A receiver does not take a ball directly, and receiver size is a separate matter from ball diameter — a 2-inch ball does not mean you need a 2-inch receiver. Hitch, receiver, ball mount, ball and tow vehicle must each be rated for the loaded trailer, and the lowest rating in that chain governs.

Does it require assembly?

Yes. The trailer takes roughly three to four hours with standard tools; the carriers, rack pads and spare tire mount afterwards. Hubs are pre-assembled and the wiring is pre-tested.

It ships as a multi-boxed item and the carton count differs between the two versions. Shipping method can vary too. Check everything against the supplied documentation before you start, keep the paperwork envelope, and report anything missing or damaged to us promptly at sales@ecofishingshop.com.

What maintenance does it need?

Before every trip check lights, coupler and pin, crossed safety chains, lug nuts, condition of all three tires including the spare, and all straps and carrier fasteners. Service the wheel bearings on the schedule in your documentation and rinse the frame, wheels, carriers and hardware after salt water or road salt. Rack pads and straps wear — replace them when they stop doing their job.

Inflate to the Malone-recommended cold pressure for this trailer, 35 to 40 PSI, checked before towing while the tires are cold, and follow the trailer documentation and current manufacturer specification. A sidewall maximum is not the recommended operating pressure — read the sidewall for tire size, load range and maximum limits, not for the figure to inflate to.

What warranty applies, and what do I need to register?

Five years, limited, on defects in materials and workmanship for the original retail purchaser, subject to the written exclusions. Normal wear, corrosion, accidents, misuse, overloading and assembly errors are excluded, and no claim can be guaranteed in advance. Register with Malone within 30 days of purchase and keep your original receipt.

Warranty registration and state trailer registration are different things. Title, plate and inspection requirements vary by jurisdiction — your state motor vehicle agency has the answer for yours.
