What is included in this LowBed package?

Every version includes the MicroSport LowBed base trailer, two 12-inch wheels on marine-grade sealed bearings, the reinforced steel tongue, a full-size 12-inch spare tire with locking attachment, DOT-approved LED lighting, a pre-tested electrical system, pre-fitted chassis components, two sets of kayak carriers, and the instruction manual with registration paperwork.

Which carriers arrive depends on the style you select at checkout.

How low do the load bars sit, and why does that help?

The 78-inch load bars sit 22 inches from the ground on this LowBed frame, compared with 30 inches on a standard MicroSport. That lets a heavy fishing kayak be slid aboard rather than lifted, which is the reason the LowBed exists.

These galvanized marine-grade trailers can also be backed down a boat ramp so boats launch straight into the water. Ramp conditions vary and repeated submersion asks more of bearings and hardware, so rinse afterwards and keep to the service schedule in your documentation.

Bunks, MegaWing or SaddleUp Pro — which should I pick?

Padded bunks support the hull along a long run of its length, which is what large, heavy fishing kayaks and flat or pontoon-style bottoms call for.

MegaWing carriers hold boats bottom-down in a cradle and suit large recreational kayaks and traditional bottom fishing hulls. SaddleUp Pro carriers suit large recreational boats and fishing kayaks with a center keel or pontoon-style bottom, conforming to irregular hull shapes better than a fixed cradle.

Hull shape decides this, not boat length. Send us the make and model of both kayaks and we will confirm which style supports them properly.

How much can it carry?

The trailer is rated for 800 pounds in total, covering canoes and kayaks up to 20 feet. That total is the controlling limit and covers both boats, both carrier sets, the spare tire, straps and any gear at once.

If a bunk kit carries a rating higher than what the trailer has left, the trailer's 800-pound total still controls the complete load — a stronger carrier never raises what the chassis is approved to carry. Tow vehicle and hitch limits apply separately, and the lowest applicable number governs the trip.

What size kayaks fit?

Up to 20 feet on the reinforced steel tongue and 78-inch bars. Beyond length, beam and hull profile decide whether two boats sit alongside each other comfortably and whether the carrier you chose supports them properly.

The 44-to-63-inch adjustable bar spread lets you place support points where the hull is strongest rather than where the bars happen to be. Measure both boats and weigh them loaded, and contact our team if you want the combination checked before ordering.

What hitch hardware does it need?

The trailer coupler requires a 2-inch-diameter hitch ball, and the top of that ball should sit 18 inches from the ground so the trailer tows level. That is the trailer's side of the connection. Lighting is a DOT-approved plug-and-play LED kit, so confirm your vehicle's connector matches or plan for an adapter.

Your vehicle needs a hitch with a receiver, a ball mount that fits that receiver, and a 2-inch ball fitted to the ball mount. A receiver does not take a ball directly, and receiver size is a separate matter from ball diameter — a 2-inch ball does not mean you need a 2-inch receiver. Hitch, receiver, ball mount, ball and tow vehicle must each be rated for the loaded trailer, and the lowest rating in that chain governs.

Does it require assembly?

Yes. The trailer takes roughly three to four hours with standard tools, then the carriers and spare tire mount afterwards. Bunk-style carriers take a little longer because they adjust for width, height and angle and are best set with the boat present.

It is a multi-boxed item and the carton count varies noticeably between carrier styles. Inspect the shipment against the supplied documentation before starting, keep the paperwork envelope, and tell us promptly at sales@ecofishingshop.com about anything missing or damaged.

What maintenance does it need?

Check lights, coupler and pin, crossed safety chains, lug nuts, condition of all three tires including the spare, and every strap before each trip. Service the wheel bearings on the schedule in your documentation, and take it seriously if you launch from ramps. Rinse frame, wheels, carriers and hardware after salt water or road salt, and keep bunk carpet free of grit, which is what marks hulls.

Inflate to the Malone-recommended cold pressure for this trailer, 35 to 40 PSI, checked before towing while the tires are cold, and follow the trailer documentation and current manufacturer specification. A sidewall maximum is not the recommended operating pressure — read the sidewall for tire size, load range and maximum limits, not for the figure to inflate to.

What warranty applies, and what do I need to register?

A five-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the original retail purchaser, subject to the written terms and exclusions. Normal wear, corrosion, accidents, misuse, overloading and failures caused by not following the instructions are excluded, and no claim can be guaranteed in advance. Register with Malone within 30 days and keep your original receipt.

That is separate from registering the trailer with your state for road use. Requirements vary by jurisdiction — check with your state motor vehicle agency.

Easy to assemble, sturdy.

I originally purchased a different trailer but EcoFishing Shop quickly contacted me to let me know it wasn't really what I needed for the 2 heavy kayaks I ordered- they helped me get this instead. I have used the trailer twice already with no complaints although I think the kayaks would be easier to load and unload if the trailer was a bit lower.

I am an engineer (electrical and biomedical). I know my way around stuff. Even with proper tools from my workshop, it took a long time to assemble. The directions really were, well, they sucked. Video for assembly is needed. Pricey. But good unit overall.

Don't know why we waited this long to purchase this trailer, it is a well-designed trailer and easy to assemble with the detailed instructions. Used for the first time this week and worked like a dream to get kayaks to one of our favorite lakes and the best part is NO LIFTING!! the kayaks.
The only extra item we installed, is a trailer jack to make maneuvering trailer in garage easier and to save your back!

Everything was shipped boxed and well packed. It took 6 hours to assemble and everything fit perfectly. No crap hardware, and the instructions were a breeze to follow! We have two kayaks and there’s no better way to travel. The people at Eco are excellent to work with too!

Solid Trailer with good assembly instructions

While it took a couple of months for the trailer to come in, that’s just part of the supply chain challenges we are facing now. Trailer came in 6 boxes. I laid out all the parts and felt overwhelmed. But instructions were pretty easy to follow. Trailer went together in about 6 hours over several evenings. Would have been faster with an extra set of hands. Used it for the first time this past weekend. Put the whole trailer underwater at the boat ramp. Kayaks floated off and on very easily. Lights worked even submerged. Trailer did great on highway as well. I have no complaints.
