Malone HERO Trailer - Heroes on the Water 250th Anniversary Edition

Introducing the Malone HERO Trailer, a special-edition collaboration between Malone Auto Racks and Heroes on the Water, built to celebrate the organization's 250th anniversary and honor the veterans, active-duty military, and first responders who find healing and community on the water.

Designed on the proven foundation of the Malone MicroSport™ Off-Road LowBed™ Trailer platform, the HERO Trailer brings the same rugged, go-anywhere performance that paddlers trust, now finished in a bold Heroes on the Water green and bundled with exclusive gear to show your support every time you hit the road.

Every HERO Trailer purchase also triggers a combined $250 donation to Heroes on the Water, with $125 coming from Malone and $125 from Eco Fishing Shop, making every launch a contribution to a cause that matters.

Heros on the wayer

The HERO MicroSport Off-Road LowBed platform was built to handle the demands of serious paddlers who venture far beyond the pavement. Its low-profile LowBed™ frame design makes loading and unloading kayaks easier on your back, while the off-road-capable suspension and oversized pontoon tires handle rough boat ramps, gravel paths, and uneven terrain with confidence. Rated for up to 800 lbs. and boats up to 20 feet in length, the HERO Trailer is available in three configurations: trailer only, a single large bunk set for solo kayak transport, or dual bunk sets plus a spare tire for two-kayak carry, so it scales to your setup whether you're heading out solo or rolling to the water with a full crew.

Each HERO Trailer ships with an exclusive Heroes on the Water Boat Safety Flag to attach to your bow during transport, plus two Heroes on the Water decals to personalize your rig and carry the mission with you on every trip. Built on a platform trusted by kayak anglers and paddlers nationwide, constructed from 11-gauge marine grade galvanized steel with a five-year limited warranty, and backed by a cause worth rallying around, the Malone HERO Trailer is more than a way to get your boat to the water. It is a statement of gratitude and solidarity with the heroes who have earned every cast.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the HERO different from a standard Off-Road LowBed?

It is built on the same MicroSport Off-Road LowBed platform, with the same 800-pound rating, boats up to 20 feet, 78-inch load bars sitting 22 inches from the ground, adjustable 44-to-63-inch bar spread, oversized pontoon tires and 11-gauge marine grade steel construction.

What changes is the finish and what ships with it. The frame is powder coated in Heroes on the Water green rather than black, and every trailer includes two Heroes on the Water decals and a Malone safety flag to fly from the bow during transport. Each purchase also supports Heroes on the Water through the donation described above.

Which of the three configurations should I choose?

Base trailer only gives you the chassis with its 78-inch load bars and no boat carriers — suitable if you already own carriers or want to specify your own.

The single kayak large bunk kit adds one set of padded bunks, which gives long-run hull support for one heavy fishing kayak on a low-loading trailer.

The two bunk sets and spare tire version adds a second bunk kit for two-boat carry plus a spare tire, which suits remote launches and regular two-boat trips. Contact our team if you want help matching a configuration to your boats.

How much can the HERO carry?

800 pounds in total, covering canoes and kayaks up to 20 feet. That figure is the controlling limit for the complete load at once — boats, bunk kits or other carriers, the spare tire on the version that includes one, straps, and any gear.

It is not a per-boat allowance. The large kayak bunk kit is rated to 500 pounds per boat, but that rating describes the carrier, not the chassis; the trailer's 800-pound total still controls the complete load. Tow vehicle and hitch limits apply separately and the lowest applicable figure governs the trip.

Why the low loading position?

Because a heavy fishing kayak can be slid onto a 22-inch bar rather than lifted. That is the design intent of the LowBed platform, and it is what makes the trailer manageable for one person or at the end of a long day.

The trailer can also be backed down a boat ramp so boats launch directly into the water, removing the carry from the parking lot. Ramp surfaces vary and submersion asks more of the bearings, so rinse afterwards and keep to the service schedule in your documentation.

Can I add a retractable tongue kit for storage?

No. The retractable tongue kit offered for some MicroSport trailers is not compatible with this LowBed platform, so plan your storage around the trailer's full 13-foot 3-inch length rather than assuming it can be shortened.

Measure your garage or storage space before ordering. More generally, not every trailer accessory in the Malone range fits every trailer — confirm compatibility with us before buying anything that mounts to the tongue or the frame. Browse Malone accessories and we will check your shortlist.

How does the off-road specification behave in practice?

Oversized pontoon tires spread the load on soft ground, marine-grade sealed hubs and a green powder coat over pre-galvanized steel cope with repeated wetting, and the trailer handles gravel paths, rough boat ramps and uneven terrain that would trouble a highway-only trailer.

That is not a promise that it will cope with every surface. A LowBed sits closer to the ground than the standard Off-Road, so watch ruts, rocks and steep approach angles. Load, tire condition, weather, your tow vehicle, posted speed limits and local restrictions on where trailers may be taken all still apply.

What hitch hardware does it need?

The trailer coupler requires a 2-inch-diameter hitch ball, and the top of that ball should sit 18 inches from the ground so the trailer tows level. That is the trailer's side of the connection. Lighting is a DOT-approved plug-and-play submersible LED kit, so confirm your vehicle's connector matches.

Your vehicle needs a hitch with a receiver, a ball mount that fits that receiver, and a 2-inch ball fitted to the ball mount. A receiver does not take a ball directly, and receiver size is a separate matter from ball diameter — a 2-inch ball does not mean you need a 2-inch receiver. Hitch, receiver, ball mount, ball and tow vehicle must each be rated for the loaded trailer, and the lowest rating in that chain governs.

Unloaded tongue weight is 25 pounds and rises once boats are aboard.

Does it require assembly?

Yes. The trailer goes together with common tools using the illustrated instructions, and any bunk kits mount to the load bars afterwards. Bunks adjust for width, height and angle, so set them with the boat present rather than bolting them down at a guess. Hubs arrive pre-assembled and the wiring is pre-tested.

It arrives as a multi-boxed item and the carton count and shipping method vary with the configuration you choose. Inspect the shipment against the supplied documentation before starting, keep the paperwork envelope, and report anything missing or damaged promptly at sales@ecofishingshop.com.

What maintenance does it need?

Before every trip: lights, coupler seated and pinned, crossed safety chains, lug nuts, tire condition including the spare where fitted, and every strap and bunk fastener. Service the wheel bearings on the schedule in your documentation, rinse the frame, wheels, bunks and hardware with fresh water after salt water, mud or road salt, keep bunk carpet clear of grit, and check the powder coat for chips. NHTSA tire safety guidance covers general tire care.

Inflate to the Malone-recommended cold pressure for this trailer, 35 to 40 PSI, checked before towing while the tires are cold, and follow the trailer documentation and current manufacturer specification. A sidewall maximum is not the recommended operating pressure — read the sidewall for tire size, load range and maximum limits, not for the figure to inflate to.

What warranty applies, and what do I need to register?

A five-year limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for the original retail purchaser, subject to the written terms and exclusions. Normal wear, corrosion, accident damage, misuse, overloading and failures caused by not following the assembly instructions fall outside it, and no claim outcome can be promised in advance. Register with Malone within 30 days of purchase and keep your original receipt.

That warranty registration is a separate matter from titling, plating or inspecting the trailer for road use, which varies by state and province. Your state motor vehicle agency is the authority for your jurisdiction.

Hi William, we do not have a catalogue, but you can reach out to Malone directly and they may have one. It has the same specs and features as the Malone MicroSport Off-Road Low-bed trailer, except it is green and comes with a safety flag and stickers.
