Native/Bonafide X-Range Pedal Drive

The Native/Bonafide X-Range Pedal Drive adds pedal power to the Bonafide XTR140P Fishing Kayak and the Native Watercraft Forge 12 Fishing Kayak. The drive is the same on both kayaks, and you choose the Bonafide XTR140P option or the Native Forge 12 option. The Forge 12 option also includes a conversion kit that sets the Forge 12 up for the pedal drive.

The drive stows on deck and deploys in seconds with no rigging, using a one-handed twist-lock and an auto-aligning latch. It offers hands-free reverse, has a built-in weed cutter, and uses a quick-release design for loading and transport. It can also come off the boat entirely, leaving a motor platform with no deck footprint, and it is built from heavy-duty materials.

Steering is by hand. The XTR140P has hand steering integrated for the pedal drive, and the Forge 12 conversion kit is listed with a hand-controlled steering kit, a thwart bar, a drive box cover and hardware. Fully rigged weight with the pedal drive is listed at 130 lb (59.0 kg) for the Forge 12.

Frequently Asked Questions About the X-Range Pedal Drive

Which kayaks does the X-Range Pedal Drive fit?

The X-Range Pedal Drive is sold for two kayaks: the Bonafide XTR140P and the Native Watercraft Forge 12. Both hulls are listed as built to run the drive, and the option you select decides what ships with it. A fit list for other hulls is not published, so contact us with your kayak make and model before you order if it is not one of these two.

What comes with each option of the X-Range Pedal Drive?

The X-Range Pedal Drive is the same drive on both options. The Forge 12 option adds a conversion kit, listed with a hand-controlled steering kit, a thwart bar, a drive box cover and hardware. A contents list for the XTR140P option is not published, and the kayak, seat and paddle are not part of either option, so contact us if you need an itemized list before you order.

How is the X-Range Pedal Drive steered?

On the XTR140P, hand steering is integrated for the X-Range Pedal Drive. On the Forge 12, the conversion kit adds hand-controlled rudder steering that mounts on the left or right side, high or low, with self-lubricating bushings and stainless steel cables and housings. The Forge 12 otherwise ships with foot-controlled rudder steering, and whether it still works after the kit is fitted is not published.

How does the X-Range Pedal Drive stow, deploy and travel?

The X-Range Pedal Drive stows on deck, deploys in seconds with a one-handed twist-lock and auto-aligning latch, and can be removed from the boat entirely. It uses a quick-release design for loading and transport. The XTR140P has two stowage locations, under the deck platform and at the stern. Drive weight, dimensions, depth and gearing are not published.

How does the X-Range Pedal Drive affect kayak weight and capacity?

The Forge 12 is listed at 110 lb (49.9 kg) fully rigged and 130 lb (59.0 kg) with the X-Range Pedal Drive, with a 600 lb (272.2 kg) capacity. The XTR140P is listed at 185 lb (83.9 kg) fully rigged with a 725 lb (328.9 kg) capacity, and whether that weight includes the drive is not published. Count the drive, yourself and all gear against capacity and leave margin.

Can I add the X-Range Pedal Drive after buying the kayak?

The Native Watercraft Forge 12 is listed as X-Range ready, and the X-Range Pedal Drive can be added after you buy it. The XTR140P is sold with and without the drive, and the drive is otherwise a separate purchase. Whether a drive can be fitted to an XTR140P bought without it, and any installation instructions, are not published, so contact us before you order.

What warranty covers the X-Range Pedal Drive?

No warranty term is published for the X-Range Pedal Drive. The Native Watercraft product warranty and the Bonafide warranty page state a five-year term only for the 701 Series Propel, a different drive, so it is not applied here. The drive is listed with heavy-duty materials backed by the manufacturer warranty, so contact us for the coverage before you order.
