2026 NRS Chinook Fishing PFD

The NRS Chinook PFD is a Level 70 fishing life jacket built around the Orbit Fit System, which layers precision-cut closed-cell foam pieces into a pre-curved shape that conforms to the body. The contoured back flotation panel sits flush against an angler's back, and a mesh lower back adds ventilation on warm days.

NRS Every Body Design eliminates separate men's and women's models, while Graded Sizing matches flotation to body type across three size ranges covering 30 to 56 inch (76 to 142 cm) chests for users 88 lbs (40 kg) and up. Design flotation is 14.6 lbs (6.6 kg) in XS/M and 15.75 lbs (7.1 kg) in M/L and XL/XXL. A YKK zipper entry combines with four side adjustments and two shoulder adjustments to lock in the fit, and a silicone-coated inner waistband holds the PFD in place during a swim.


Storage is where the Chinook has earned its reputation over more than ten years on the water. Two large clamshell pockets are sized for fly boxes and tackle boxes and include internal organization, with a third exterior pocket on the angler's right side for gear that needs to stay within reach. A hook-and-loop tool holder pocket keeps pliers and line cutters accessible and pairs with an integrated rod holder loop for hands-free tasks. The medium-profile shell uses 420-denier ripstop nylon over PVC-free Ethafoam shims with a recycled nylon inner. 3M reflective accents, shoulder strap keepers, a knife lash tab, and additional front and back attachment points handle low-light visibility and accessory mounting for knives, lights, and strobes.

The NRS Shinook PDF L I purchased seems to be bulky for me. Too much in the chest area. I wanted to try the Old Town PFF but out of my size at the time. I wish I had waited til the OT size L was in stock.

Nearly everyone in kayak tournament trails wears an NRS Chinook and for good reason. They are incredibly comfortable, reliable, tons of pockets and storage and a worth-while investment. I previously owned a less expensive life jacket bought from a chain locally. I was never a fan but out of convenience, I picked it up. This Chinook fits well, has wide teeth zippers, plenty of pockets and is very adjustable. 250 lbs and being an XXL, sometimes it hard to get a good fit. This life jacket checks all the boxes. Would recommend.

My Vanhunks Elite Pro Angler is so good at staying upright that i haven't had a chance to try out the life jacket, and hope i never have to. But I bought an NRS Chinook because I wanted something with a good reputation in case that day ever comes. It is surprisingly comfortable for a life jacket. I really don't realize I have it on half the time. It has plenty of pockets to keep things nearby if you want. I would buy the same one again.

Amazing PFD with storage and protection

I picked this up with my new kayak and have worn it on a few outings now. The first one I was not used to wearing a PFD and thought it was weird and I was too old for this, but my safety mindset told me I needed to and kept going. After I knew it was there because it had POCKETS to store stuff which was amazing. I kept my full size phone in the left pocket for pictures with fish of course and I had like 5-6 other pouches of jigs in the right pocket with a can of copenhagen, and it had room for more. The rod holder it kind of useless honestly, but I feel safe wearing this while I have that extra storage. It is also very comfortable while sitting in the seat of my kayak going around. They thought of it all when they were making it. One of the best Kayak fishing PFD's I've seen!
