I had been looking for a "legitimate" fishing kayak that could be transported in the 6'ft bed of my pickup without any bulky racks or road safety issues for longer trips. The Pike really fits the bill. It can do pretty much anything the Hobies and fancy fishing kayaks do; with arguably a better hull design, and a better price point. Not every feature is as clean-cut and smooth as the expensive fin-drive Hobies, but this is expected for -$2500 less out of your wallet. The Pike is definitely the best new kayak available that utilizes the original Hobie fin-drive (expired patent). Also I was not able to stand up in my last kayak on flat water. Now with the Pike I have been able to try my hand at some stand casting. Only drawbacks are: low seat (even in high position). And the rudder system is a bit clumsy.
