confusing installation instructions

it took more that 2 hours to figure out how to get the rudder string through the plastic tube. The routing instructions for the rudder cables wasn't very clear, i wasted a lot of time figuring it out and just did it the way I wanted it. In the end I think it came out better than the way the video showed. It works great with the trolling motor. I can make the adjustment knob fairly tight and it will stay there so I can fish without having to make adjustments. The other commenter was right about the paint! Don't get any sunscreen or bug spray near it, the paint gets sticky and stays that way.

8 Ball really?

First of all I'm going to say that feel free customer service is number one and they seem to really try to keep their customers happy. I own three feel free kayaks... I broke the 8 ball off in the garage before I even took it to the lake. I received the new part and 1 hour on the water it broke again. I decided that design was so flawed that anybody could make it better. I bought a piece of 3/4 inch plastic and notched out the fins on the bottom of the plastic housing and created a bigger screw area to bolt the housing to the aluminum frame. It worked awesome so I redid my other kayak before it broke. Now with that problem solved I noticed that you can't paddle your kayak with that 8 ball sticking up. I had to loosen the Allen head and rotate the handle back parallel to the boat. I still bang it with the paddle occasionally but it's so strong it doesn't hurt it. I think feel free could learn from Old Town steering.

Nothing is perfect.....

I have had some experience with this product and it has some flaws to say the least.
It is nice to control the rudder by hand while pedaling versus controlling the rudder with your feet while paddling. Big plus while you are fishing.
Check the metal bracket tabs that the 8 ball sits on before you attach it to your kayak. The plastic tabs that the mounting bolts go through will break if there is side to side wobble.
White paint wears off after the 3rd use. Not a biggie or a deal breaker for me.
Check for stretch of cables after a couple trips out will be needed.

Overall it's not going to make your FeelFree kayak turn on a dime. Just saying that the tests are just my thoughts from time on the water with it this year.
