If you choose to replace a kayak with minor cosmetic damage instead, then you will be charged a 20% restocking fee.

The Eco Fishing Shop definition of damage is when the kayak is delivered in a condition that compromises the hull and is confirmed with the vendor that would void the warranty.

The Jackson Bite FD is designed for anglers who want hands-free pedal propulsion on a compact hull. At 11'6" long and 35" wide with a 400 lb capacity, it is sized for small lakes, ponds, calm rivers and protected inshore saltwater rather than technical current. Pedaling frees both hands for casting and for holding position against a light wind, which is the main reason to choose it over a paddle hull.

What drive does the Jackson Bite FD use, and is it included?

The Jackson Bite FD includes the Flex Drive Mark IV pedal system and the Comfort Seat 5.0. The drive has a mid position for shallower water and a fully retracted position for launching, landing and transport. Drive coverage runs two years for the original purchaser only, is not transferable, and requires registering the boat on Jackson's website within two weeks of purchase. The Flex Drive Mark IV owner's manual carries the claim procedure.

The Jackson Bite FD weighs 90.5 lbs bare, 96.5 lbs with the seat and 110 lbs with the seat and upper unit fitted. The drive itself is part of what the hull carries, so budget for the paddler, the seat, the Flex Drive Mark IV, any battery and electronics, and the tackle and water you bring. The published figure is not defined as including or excluding those components, which is a further reason to keep a conservative margin.

How should I clean and store the Jackson Bite FD?

Rinse the Jackson Bite FD with fresh water after saltwater use, including the drive well, the scuppers and the hatch seals, then let it dry before it goes away. Rinse and dry the Flex Drive Mark IV separately and store it out of the hull. Keep the kayak out of prolonged direct sunlight on even supports. Grit left in the drive well is what shortens a pedal drive's life.

What does the Jackson Bite FD warranty cover?

Two warranties apply to the Jackson Bite FD. The hull limited warranty runs three years for the original purchaser of a new kayak from an authorized dealer, is nontransferable and requires proof of purchase: year one repair or replacement at no charge with free shipping, year two a replacement build at 70% off retail plus shipping, year three 50% of MSRP plus shipping. Fishing and exploration replacement builds exclude seats and drives in all three years. The Flex Drive Mark IV is warranted separately for two years, original purchaser only, nontransferable, and the boat must be registered on Jackson's website within two weeks of purchase.

Where to start… Ordering the boat was easy, make your pick, pay money and that’s where the fun ends… Had no idea they use a 3rd Party shipper that will only deliver your boat when they have other deliveries in your “Region” yes region not “area.” So after and upon speaking to the shipper to change the address to an actual Jackson Reps address was the boat delivered. We then drove 2hrs to pick the boat up from them just to have it for a tournament…. Upon picking the boat up, the extra $100 you pay for “Professional Shipping” and safe shipping, the boat came scratched all down the side like it had been drug thru a rock yard! And Gus’s what? Eco advises this is “Cosmetic” and not covered under anything! Zero Stars for this experience!

Loving My Jackson Bite FD So Far

I’ve been using my Jackson Bite FD for a little while now, and it’s been a great kayak overall. The pedal drive is smooth and makes long days on the lake a lot easier, especially when I’m dealing with wind or covering bigger water. The kayak feels really stable, even when I’m moving around or reaching for gear.

There’s plenty of deck space to stand, move, and organize everything I need. The seat is decent—not the most perfect fit for me yet, and I’m still trying to find that ideal position—but it’s definitely not uncomfortable or the worst seat out there.

Eco Fishing Shop was great to deal with during the purchase. They answered my questions, were easy to work with, and made the whole process simple.

Overall, I’m really happy with the kayak and the experience so far.

Perfect kayak for floating and fishing

I was looking for a kayak that I could take on lakes and shallow rivers for fishing. After taking it on a large lake with good-sized waves and then on a couple of spring-fed rivers in central Missouri, it exceeded my expectations. When in shallow water, I can easily pull up the outdrive to avoid hanging up on rocks or trees. Then drop the drive back down to cruise through slower pools. I also get a nice workout paddling. I am totally pleased with my purchase.
