Its 40-inch adjustable fiberglass composite shaft is what sets it apart. A 12V deep-cycle or marine battery is the recommended type for the 62-pound version. A 24V requirement cannot be satisfied by one 12V battery, and combining batteries to make 24V is wiring work — follow the connection method in the L Series owner's manual rather than general practice. Circuit protection is required: a manual-reset breaker in the motor leads within 72 inches of the battery. How do the L Series five forward and three reverse speeds work?
The Newport L Series gives five forward and three reverse speeds through the twist-grip handle, worked by rotating it in either direction. They are fixed steps, not a continuously variable throttle. Let the propeller stop turning before shifting between full forward and full reverse, or you risk damaging the motor. An LED meter on the top cover shows remaining charge, and it is calibrated for a deep-cycle lead-acid system rather than lithium. Recharge before the meter runs low and keep enough charge in reserve to get back under power.

It is rated for salt and fresh water.
