Who is the Newport NV Series best suited for?

Which NV Series versions require 12V, and which require 24V?
The 36, 46, 55 and 62-pound Newport NV Series versions run on 12V. The 86-pound version requires a 24V system. No battery is included with any version. A 12V deep-cycle or marine battery is the recommended type for the 12V versions, and a 24V requirement cannot be met with one 12V battery — the two are not interchangeable. Building 24V from two batteries is wiring work, so follow the connection method in the NV Series owner's manual rather than general practice. Circuit protection is required: a manual-reset breaker in the motor leads within 72 inches of the battery. The LED meter is not designed for lithium systems, so its reading cannot be trusted on a lithium pack.

How do the NV Series five forward and three reverse speeds work?
The Newport NV Series uses a twist-grip tiller for five forward and three reverse speeds, worked by rotating the handle in either direction. They are fixed steps rather than a continuously variable throttle. Let the propeller stop turning before shifting from full forward to full reverse, or you risk motor damage. Five LEDs show remaining charge; on a 12V version, four of them out means input voltage has fallen below 9.5V, so disconnect and recharge. Disconnect from the battery whenever the motor leaves the water.
How does the NV Series compare with the X or L Series?
The Newport NV Series, X Series and L Series are brushed tiller trolling motors with five forward and three reverse speeds. The NV Series is the range: five ratings, 36 to 86 pounds, on 30-inch and 36-inch shafts. The Newport X Series is one 55-pound configuration on a 36-inch shaft, distinguished by its 6-inch telescoping, 30-degree tilting handle. What is included with the NV Series, and is the battery included?
No battery is included with the Newport NV Series. It ships with the motor, the propeller matched to your thrust version, the installation tools and hardware — drive pin, washer, tightening nut and spanner/wrench — and the circuit breaker for that version. Breaker amperage follows the version: 40 amps with the 36-pound, 50 with the 46-pound, and 60 with the 55, 62 and 86-pound versions. You supply the battery system — 12V for the four smaller versions, 24V for the 86-pound — plus a charger and cabling.
Can the NV Series be used in salt water, and what maintenance is required?
Yes — the Newport NV Series is rated for salt and fresh water, thanks to the stainless steel and zinc hardware used across Newport's trolling motors. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after every saltwater use, limiting the rinse to the areas that contacted salt water and keeping the top cover dry, because water there can damage the internal circuitry. Salt water left on metal corrodes it eventually. Disconnect the battery before clearing line or weed from the propeller or changing it, and store the motor where it will not freeze. Newport's saltwater use guidance carries its full rinse recommendation.
What warranty coverage comes with the NV Series?
The Newport NV Series carries a two-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, restricted to the original owner and non-transferable. Claims need proof of purchase within the coverage period plus photos or video of the damage, so keep your receipt and record the serial number. Registering the motor is not required and no registration deadline applies. Commercial use of any kind is excluded, as are neglect, abuse, lack of maintenance, accident, improper use or assembly, and failed repair attempts. The buyer pays transport charges on a claim.
