But do not worry, this carrier has a 99.97% damage-free rate and they have assured us of this. In the rare occasion damage has been detected, Eco Fishing Shop will take care of the replacement as long as the damage is reported within 2 hours of delivery and pictures of the damage are submitted via email. The Eco Fishing Shop definition of damage is when the kayak is delivered in a condition that compromises the hull and is confirmed with the vendor that would void the warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Old Town Loon 126

Who is the Loon 126 best suited to?

Recreational paddlers who want a comfortable, roomy sit-inside for day trips. It shares the 12 ft 6 in hull and large cockpit of the angler version without the fishing-specific outfitting.

It suits lakes, ponds, slow rivers and protected water, and its 391 lb usable capacity leaves plenty of margin for a day's gear or a dog.

Specifications describe the boat, not the day. Wind, current, chop and water temperature are what decide whether a trip is a good idea, so build experience gradually on water you know.

How much weight can the Old Town Loon 126 carry?

Total capacity is 450 lb and usable capacity is 391 lb. Those are different numbers and the second one is the one that matters to you.

Total capacity includes the assembled kayak itself. Usable capacity is what is left for people, gear, pets and any equipment you add, after the 59 lb assembled weight is accounted for. Never treat the total figure as the amount you can load aboard.

Stay under the usable figure with room to spare. A boat sitting deep is slower, wetter and less forgiving than the same boat sensibly loaded.

What is the cockpit like to get into?

This is a sit-inside hull, so you step into the cockpit rather than sitting on top of the boat.

The cockpit measures 56 in x 23 in, which is a large, open opening by sit-inside standards — easy to get into and out of, and easy to reach gear through.

Deck height is 17.25 in. A sit-inside keeps more of you out of wind and spray than a sit-on-top does, which is why people choose them for cooler water and shoulder seasons. The flip side is that self-rescue after a capsize is harder than on a sit-on-top, so practise it somewhere shallow and warm before you need it.

Is it stable?

At 31 in wide on a hull of 12 ft 6 in, it is built around a stable platform rather than outright speed.

Specifications describe the boat, not the day. Wind, current, chop and water temperature are what decide whether a trip is a good idea, so build experience gradually on water you know.

What do I need to buy alongside it?

A paddle is not included with the kayak. Neither is a PFD, and you need one aboard for every person on every trip. If you tell us how tall you are and how wide the boat is, we can point you at a sensible paddle length rather than guessing at the counter.

Beyond a paddle and a PFD, the things that actually change a day are a way to keep your phone dry, a bilge sponge or pump, and something to hold water. None of it is expensive and all of it gets forgotten.

Tell us where and how you intend to paddle and we will keep the list short rather than sell you a pile of gear you will not use. If you want us to check a specific setup before you order, call 844-987-5777 or email sales@ecofishingshop.com.

How do I transport and store it?

Length is 12 ft 6 in, width is 31 in, and the assembled weight is 59 lb.

For transport, take off the seat. That is the difference between moving an awkward assembled boat and moving a hull.

Look up your vehicle's roof load rating and your crossbar rating before you order a rack — those figures, not the hull weight, set the limit. At this weight one person can usually manage it with a cart and a bit of technique.

What warranty applies?

The hull and deck carry limited lifetime coverage for the original retail purchaser, subject to the published warranty terms. Accessories are generally covered for one year from the original purchase date.

Warranty service does not go through the retailer. Retailers are not authorized to perform warranty repairs on these kayaks, so a claim is opened directly with Old Town customer service rather than with us. We are not the decision-maker on coverage.

What we can do is help you work out which component is involved, what documentation you need and which support path applies. If you want us to check a specific setup before you order, call 844-987-5777 or email sales@ecofishingshop.com.

Can I use it in saltwater, and how should I look after it?

No saltwater rating is published for this model, so treat salt use as a maintenance question rather than a spec question. Rinsing is what decides how the hardware ages.

Rinse the hull, the fittings and the seat hardware with fresh water after any trip in salt or brackish water, and let everything dry before it goes into storage. Salt does its work as it dries.

Keep it out of prolonged sun and rest it on wide, padded supports rather than a single bar. Polyethylene takes a set under sustained pressure.
