Old Town Sportsman Salty PDL 120 Fishing Kayak

I have had my new kayak for 2 1/2 months but, due to travel and family needs, just got it on the water the past two weeks. The old Town Sportsman Salty PDL 120 has proven to be everything I was looking for, except one thing. It is very stable, fast, easy to pedal, and has the open design that allows me to have rods, tackle, bait buckets, landing net, yak pole, and paddle all readily accessible without clutter. I have added a bungee attached cooler to the back of my seat with two additional rod holders, making extended time on the water more enjoyable. I am working on selecting optimal electronics, but have been very successful fishing in my low country tidal creeks without the technical aid.
While the outfitted kayak is much heftier than my older kayaks, fitting it with a balloon tire rail-type cart makes the 600 yard walk to the neighborhood launch very doable.
I have pedaled over six miles in one session without this 66 year old man feeling tired at the end of the day. Waking up the next day raring to go again!
The one thing that isn’t great is with my 6’4” frame needing the seat in the next to last back position, the seat back angle retention strap obstructs the rightward movement of the steering knob. This is very irritating when trying to maneuver in tight areas where sharp turns are needed. I recognize that I could get aftermarket seat risers, but I like the seat level and lowered center of gravity for the added sense of stability.
Except for that one thing, I wouldn’t change anything. I love getting to fish the docks, skinny water, and tight creek branches while getting a good leg workout.

Love it! Stable, fast and comfortable. Got it in just over a week. Would give a five star rating but the paddle was forgotten. Not a big deal , I have a carbon fiber paddle I bring with me.

I sold a Sportsman 120 pdl to get the Salty pdl, I wanted a faster more nimble kayak that was a little lighter, the Salty checks those boxes perfectly! It's been better than expected for me, weather in rough windy conditions or calm backwaters. Only downside is no front hatch storage, but I'm a minimalist anyway so it's works great for me.

Rigging went very smoothly. I was missing one part and Ecofishing got it to me promptly. I have had the boat out fishing one time and it worked great.

The old town salty is a great kayak. The shipping company however, was very unprofessional .
My 3k investment was left sitting in my front yard closer to the street then my house. Sometimes after 5pm the company left it and didn't even knock on the door. I didn't find it till 5am the next morning.

Love it so far, its much easier to move around than my Predator 132.

I had received my old town salty in a timely manner in good condition. However the seat had minor damage to it. I contacted them and they sent me a new seat within two weeks. Will definitely purchase from them again.

Really pleased that I went with the peddle powered 'yaks from Old Town. Easy to use and come ready to go. Looking forward to fishing from them now that it's not so terribly hot. Great product all around.

Ordered on 08/07/2022, thought it was in stock because web site said ready to ship,didn't get fulfilled till the 16, shipper picked up the 19th and now won't be delivered till the 12th of September. I chose to order from this store because it was closer to texas than the other stores that said was in stock xo I would get it sooner, boy was I wrong. We even thought to take a trip and pick up in the store, good thing we didn't. Very unhappy about shipping and glad I didn't opp for expedient delivery for 299.00 or what ever it was. As far as kayak Its bound to ge better than the shipping. Wouldn't recomend buying it here.

Purchase went great. It did take a while to ship out. I would say took about 15 days before it was confirmed to ship out. It arrived in great shape. However, be advised that the delivery company does NOT call you to arrange delivery. I was lucky enough to follow the link online and check it each day. Then one night it just said it was coming the next day at a window of 12:30-3pm, and lucky I was not out of town. However, they showed up for delivery an hour before the window. My camera shows them drop it on my driveway right in front of my garage. They didn't even ring the doorbell just left. So without modern technology it could have been sitting out there for a while if I wasn't around.

I had researched pedal fishing kayaks and knew the 120 pedal salt is what I wanted.
I saw on-line that Eco Fishing Shop had the kayak available and free shipping! I had some questions about the kayak and the shipping, so have them a call. It was a Friday, just before they closed for the weekend. I was very pleased with all my answered questions and after we hung up, ordered my kayak.
Eco Fishing Shop on-line makes it very simple to order. That Monday I received an E-Mail from them saying they had processed my order. They also informed me that there might be a little delay in the shipping, but I already knew that from talking with them earlier.
When the kayak arrived, it was well wrapped, so it and everything that came with it were in great shape. After going over the easy to read instructions, everything was together and ready to go in 10 minutes.
While I was waiting for the kayak to be shipped, I realized that I needed a paddle, but didn’t know what size. I called Eco Fishing Shop and after telling them my height, they suggested a paddle that is just perfect.
I absolutely love my Old Town kayak!
The only negative thing I have to say is they don’t make a plug to fill the hole, when you raise the peddle unit up and out of the water.
I do a lot of fishing around cat tails and in where there is sea grass. Not having a plug, I get various junk that comes up on the floor area almost every time I go out.
Again, other than that, I’m very pleased with my kayak and I highly recommend Eco Fishing shop.

I love this Yak. It’s agile and quick enough to get from A-B in a matter of minutes. The one thing I will say I don’t enjoy is how the front end slaps the waves. It definitely can be an issue if I’m standing and stalking reds or trout but other than that no complaints. I’ve caught limit after limit and plan to consistently top my personal best out of this yak.

This thing moves across the water like lighting. Waves are no problem. Put it into grass and it just glides over it.

Have had on water about five times so far and loving it. Very stable and easy to control. Takes waves really well. Happy I went with this kayak.

Love this boat it is very stable and very easy to master, I bought two for my wife and I to get out and fish more easily.
The boat reacts very well to pedal power and paddle power equally without much issue. I like the weight and balance of the vehicles on the water loaded for a day of fishing. Love it! Recommend it for all the right reasons, would not change a thing about this craft it is very user friendly for those who get it about kayaking.

First off; the team at Eco Fishing was great. I got a good price and good service.

The advice on rod holder, fish finder, and mounting gear was very good but I found once I unwrapped the boat and accessories, that the configuration was a little clunky with my round base mount Striker. Also, I did not realize that the transducer mount still might result in screws into the plastic hull. Currently working with the Eco team on a different solution and they are equally helpful. I may end up with some extra parts that I didn't need, but that's all part of the learning experience, and still good value.

I definitely recommend this company and I am likely to buy another kayak from them as well as accessories in the near future.
