Old Town Topwater 106 PDL Fishing Kayak

A terrific kayak from an awesome company with great customer service. The team answered all my questions informatively after a follow up phone call before I completed my purchase. Delivery was fast, and the package arrived well protected. The kayak is very smooth on the water, and the pedal system is super convenient to operate. The kayak has plenty of storage space front and back, and even under the seat, plenty of rod holders, and the seat is extremely comfortable. I'm 5'11" and the seat can be adjusted to go back a whole lot more, so if you're a bigger guy it shouldn't be a problem. You can literally sit all day and not get cramped up. It is very stable on the water, and you can easily stand up if you need to while on the water. Overall it is a fantastic design, and i'm extremely pleased with the product, and the team at Eco Fishing Shop. Also, purchasing the wilderness systems heavy duty cart is a must if you have to haul it to the shore line. It's the perfect fit for the kayak. I'd recommend this product to everyone interested.

My kayak arrived with a factory defect. The PDL Unit could not properly be locked down. Apparently, mine was not the only one with this problem. Old Town's engineers had already designed a fix which involved replacing the front latch on the PDL Unit with a different design; involved just two screws and IT WORKED! Took it out on a test run yesterday; very satisfactory performance. Maintaining 2 mph trolling speed was almost effortless.

I am so pleased with my Old Town 106 pdl along with the eco fishing staff are an awesome group. They are now my go to for kayak fishing. Thank you Eco Fishing.

Out of all the kayaks I’ve ever owned it is the best one. Very stable and comfortable.

I bought the Topwater 106 because I needed a sit on top fishing kayak that would fit into my old minivan, and that I could get to and from the water with minimal hassle.
I'm not a tournament fisherman, but I like to bring enough tackle to switch up as the conditions require.
I'm also 6'3" and 280lbs with arthritis and not quite as agile as I was 35 years ago, so I need something easier to get in and out of than my old sit inside.
I love how much stuff I can take with me and the fact that I can get to it on the water without rolling over.
The pdl drive is amazing!
I wasn't sure if I'd be able to peddle it with my crappy knees. But it's not a problem for me at all.
It gives me so much control to position the kayak, fish and stay out of trouble.
The prop does occasionally get fouled up with weeds and stuff, but it's actually pretty easy to deal with. My only regret buying the Rail Blayza cart instead of the Wilderness Systems cart, since it absolutely will not work for this kayak without mods to make it fit between the"pontoons" on the hull.
If I take out the pdl drive and all my tackle I can lug this kayak a little way, but it is a pain.
It's so much easier to roll everything in one fell swoop, so I will be replacing the cart soon.
I've retired recently, and I plan on spending as much time as possible on the water.
I believe the exorcize will do my knees a world of good. And I'm hoping that adding more fish to my diet will also have it's benefits.

I purchased topwater pdl in 2021, there was a long lead time regarding demand that got stretched as shipping became a nightmare. The order was delayed by over 2 months beyond the estimated shipping date. Caleb from eco fishing got involved during this delay to try and resolve the issue. Unfortunately it was out of his control but it showed me that this company has an owner that will take interest in an upset customer. Ultimately eco fishing took care of me and got the kayak to me just in time for fall fishing! Thank you Caleb from eco fishing 5-star customer service!

I took time to write this review because I really wanted to know the product before writing. I do a lot of river fishing and was really worried about hidden structures impacting the pdl drive. I must say I connected with a couple rocks/branches and no issues or damaged sustained. When facing upstream, a light pedal and locked rudder will keep me in place as my fellow kayakers are paddling to the shore for stationery fishing or 1 cast then paddle to right their kayak.
I spent a lot of days in a sit on top ascend kayak and the topwater blows it away.

In the lakes using the pdl is probably obvious that you can run parallel with the shore and target the structures for the hidden bass! I feel really confident standing in this kayak as well, it’s really balanced.

A new fishing season is staring at me and I’m ready to get back on the water with this amazing kayak. The wait and delays was totally worth it and would wait again if I had too:)

Kayak is excellent quality, well packaged and I didn't find any flaws/scuffs or scrapes. Everything arrived just as expected in a timely manner. Pedal drive works flawlessly, seat is super comfortable and there is a lot of waterproof storage. My buddy has a Hobie and said he should have bought the Old Town instead after seeing this one.

Totally love my Old Town Topwater 106 pdl kayak. It's a lot easier for me to peddle than paddle and it frees up my hands to cast a pole and not worry about my paddle going overboard.(I do use a paddle teather.)
It handels well in wind and choppy water. It's well worth the price in my opinion. Get one!! You will be very pleased.

Received the Kayak packaged as described on the website-found no damaged at all to the kayak or accessories. Getting it set up was straight forward and pretty easy including installing a Hummin bird Helix 5 fish finder. Love the way it handles on the water and its comfortable and easy to fish from it. Eco Fishing Shop was helpful and easy to work with.

Kayaks have traveled from Maine to Arkansas to Washington State. On their way to California then Hawaii and finally Guam. So far so good! Still a lot of water to cross!

Nice quality kayak. Pedal drive smooth and quiet, prop takes a better bite of water you'll like the instant response , 3mph easy 4 to 5mph short distances, instant response turns as well as a tight turning radius, tracking is true, stable platform for standing,Helix 5 SI fish finder transducer attached to universal transducer mount was a snap . Came with 4 self draining scupper plugs, wind and boat wave over the bow tested -- drained the water quickly. Adjusted the seat according to manual and have to say at the end of the day I was less tired than in my more padded seat on my other pedal kayak and no bottom bar touch on my lower back either. Folks at ECO fishing shop did a great updated me and answering my questions and concerns. I don't think there's a better place to buy a kayak. This customer is pleased with purchase.

I love this kayak, it is just the right size to fit in the back of the RV and easy to move in and out of my truck to my fishing spot. I have had a lot of fun so far with the kayak. Looking forward to many fishing memories as we travel around the country.
