The Bay ST Folding Kayak

The Bay ST is the original Oru Kayak, launched on Kickstarter in 2012 and now available in retailers around the world; it’s even in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Over the years we've thoroughly updated the design to enhance performance, making it easier to assemble and more comfortable to use than its predecessors. As one of the most lightweight kayaks, it's stable enough for beginners, while the length and contouring make it fast and sporty for experts. There's plenty of room to stash gear for day trips and short camping excursions. Best of all, transforming it from box to boat takes just a few minutes.

For 2021 we've added a bunch of great features to the product that launched Oru Kayak— a closed-cockpit performance kayak that's sporty, versatile, and light.

We've made it even more durable, with new aluminum cockpit latches and extra-reinforced strap anchor points. Its updated print pattern is all about going back to our origami roots. The Bay ST is built for a wide variety of water types and conditions and holds enough gear for overnight trips.

Caring For Your Origami Kayak

We recommend treating your Oru Kayak as you would a fiberglass, wood, or skin-on-frame kayak. Here are some guidelines:

Avoid unnecessary dragging or bumping - use the carry handles to lift, instead of tugging it behind you
Store out of direct sunlight - our boats have a 10-year UV treatment, but we still recommend sheltered storage
Rinse the kayak thoroughly with fresh water after each use - sediment and salt that dry to the surface of the boat can be abrasive over time

A fun kayak.

After a month of receiving my Bay kayak, I finally used it in Austin, Texas. Everything went well. I had a lot of fun. I am looking forward to using my kayak more, but unfortunately, winter is coming soon in the Midwest, where I live.
