Is the Cruise 3.0 R a remote-steering motor or a tiller motor?
It is the remote-steering version. The R means the motor is built to connect to your boat's existing steering — a wheel and cable system or a rudder linkage — and the transom bracket carries the provision for that connection. There is no tiller arm. If you would rather sit at the stern and steer the motor by hand, the Cruise 3.0 T (48V) is the tiller version of the same motor. Confirm your boat has a working helm and steering run before you order this one.
Is a throttle included with the Cruise 3.0 R?
No, and the motor cannot be run without one. Because steering and speed control both live at the helm on a remote model, a throttle is a required purchase rather than an accessory. The TorqLink throttle with color display is the natural pairing: it communicates with the motor and battery over TorqLink and puts speed, power draw, state of charge and GPS-based remaining range on its own screen. It is also what enables the TorqView app connection. Budget for it with the motor, not afterwards.
What is included with the motor?
The Cruise 3.0 R ships as the outboard with the connection to remote steering, a cable set with main switch sized to the shaft length you order, and the standard propeller. No throttle, no battery and no charger are included. That is three separate purchases before the motor will turn, which is worth knowing at the point you compare prices. We will build the complete parts list with you — motor, throttle, 48-volt battery and charging equipment — so nothing is missing when the crate arrives.
Which battery does it need, and how many?
A 48-volt supply, built around the Torqeedo Power 48-5000 battery. One battery runs the motor; adding more extends endurance rather than increasing power. Published figures give roughly one hour and forty minutes at full throttle from a single battery, with all-day running at lower cruising speeds, and the system can be expanded to as many as sixteen batteries. Other manufacturers' batteries and Torqeedo's 24-volt Power 24-3500 require an additional cable set. Plan the bank before ordering — it drives cost, weight and where things sit.
Does it work with the TorqView app?
Yes, through the throttle. App connectivity and over-the-air software updates on this motor run via a Torqeedo throttle paired to a compatible mobile device, so the app depends on having the throttle in the system — another reason it is a required purchase rather than an optional one. The app adds live motor data, GPS tracking, trip history and analysis on top of what the throttle screen already shows. What does 6 HP equivalent mean?
It is a comparison, not a measurement of the motor's electrical output. The Cruise 3.0 R draws 3,000 W of continuous input power from the battery, and its 6 HP equivalence describes the propulsion it delivers relative to a 6 hp petrol outboard. That is a useful translation when you are replacing a petrol engine, but it is not a promise of a particular boat speed and it is not the same as electrical shaft power. Displacement, hull shape, load, propeller and conditions determine the result.
What boats is it intended for?
Displacement boats up to 3 tons and sailboats up to 30 feet. That covers small cruising sailboats using it as auxiliary power and modest displacement launches using it as primary power; it is not a planing motor. Beyond displacement, the practical questions are transom height and construction, where a 36.5 kg battery can be secured without spoiling trim, and how you will charge it between outings. This item is non-refundable, so please let our team confirm the fit against your boat before you order.
How do I pick the right shaft length?
By measuring, not by guessing. Transom height decides it — taken from the top edge of the transom straight down to the bottom of the keel, not from the waterline. The short configuration generally corresponds to a 15-inch transom and the long configuration to a 20-inch transom. A shaft that is too short lets the propeller ventilate and lose thrust the moment the bow lifts; one that is too long carries extra drag and is easier to ground. Torqeedo's installation drawings show the geometry, and we check borderline or unusual installations with you before you order.
What maintenance does it need?
Rinse the motor with fresh water after every use in salt or brackish water, inspect the sacrificial anodes regularly and replace them before they are consumed, and store the motor dry. Anodes are meant to corrode in place of the motor's aluminum components, so a fully consumed anode means the underwater parts have been unprotected for a while. What warranty applies?
Torqeedo warrants the product free from defects in workmanship and material under normal use, proper installation and proper maintenance for twenty-four months from the date of delivery, with any claim raised within six months of discovering the fault. Normal wear and routine servicing are excluded, and commercial or public-authority use falls outside the two-year warranty; the Power 48-5000 carries its own two-year non-commercial term.
