The motor arrives with its tiller control, a cable set with main switch sized to the shaft length you order, the standard propeller and the emergency magnetic stop key. The tiller carries an integrated on-board computer with GPS-based range calculation, so speed, power draw, state of charge and remaining range are shown without adding a display. No battery is included. This is a 48-volt system and it needs a 48-volt supply plus charging equipment before it will run, which is a separate line on the order.
Yes, this is the tiller model, and no separate throttle is needed. The T in the model name means tiller: you steer the motor by hand from the transom and control speed and direction from the tiller arm, which has the display built in. That is a different machine from the remote version, which connects to a boat's own wheel or rudder and requires a throttle bought separately. If your boat is steered from a helm rather than from the stern, the Cruise 3.0 R (48V) is the version you want.
A 48-volt supply, and it is designed around the Torqeedo Power 48-5000 battery. Batteries from other manufacturers, and Torqeedo's own 24-volt Power 24-3500, can be used but need an additional cable set ordered alongside the motor. Ordinary 12-volt deep-cycle batteries are not a drop-in substitute for a 48-volt system. Because the battery is the single biggest decision after the motor itself, tell us what you are planning and we will confirm the cabling and the charger for the Power 48-5000 you need before anything ships.
One battery runs the motor; more batteries extend the day rather than adding power. Published figures give roughly one hour and forty minutes of full-throttle running on a single Power 48-5000, with all-day operation at lower cruising and trolling speeds, and the system can be expanded to as many as sixteen batteries for greater stored energy. Anything beyond a simple two-battery bank is worth planning with us first, because wiring, weight distribution and charging all change once the bank grows.
They are two different measures. Input power — 3,000 W here — is the electrical power the motor draws from the battery on a continuous basis. The 6 HP equivalence is a comparison with the propulsion a 6 hp petrol outboard delivers; it is a translation into a familiar scale, not a statement of electrical shaft power and not a promise that your boat will match a 6 hp petrol boat. Hull shape, displacement, load, propeller and conditions decide what you actually get on the water.
It is specified for displacement boats up to 3 tons and sailboats up to 30 feet, which makes it a natural auxiliary for a small cruising sailboat or primary power for a modest displacement launch. It is not a planing motor. Fit depends on more than displacement: transom height and construction, where a 36.5 kg battery can sit without upsetting trim, and how you intend to charge all matter. Choose the short or long version from your boat's transom height and installation geometry rather than from its length. The short configuration generally corresponds to a 15-inch transom and the long configuration to a 20-inch transom, measured from the top edge of the transom straight down to the bottom of the keel. Neither is right for every hull: too short and the propeller ventilates and loses bite as soon as the bow lifts, too long and you add drag and grounding risk. Torqeedo's installation drawings show the mounting geometry, and we verify borderline or unusual installations before you order.
TorqLink is the data network Torqeedo uses so that the motor, its batteries and its controls recognize each other and share information automatically at startup. On this motor it is what keeps the tiller display's state of charge, power draw and GPS-based remaining range accurate, and what allows the system to report faults with a description rather than a code. Components without native TorqLink can be brought into the system with a TorqLink Gateway Set. Send us your component list and we will confirm what is required.
Rinse the motor with fresh water after every use in salt or brackish water, inspect the sacrificial anodes regularly and replace them before they are consumed, and store the motor only when it is dry. Anodes corrode in place of the motor's own aluminum parts, so a spent anode means the job is overdue. Lithium batteries store best cool and at a partial state of charge rather than full or flat. Torqeedo's operating instructions carry the full service schedule.
Torqeedo warrants the product free from defects in workmanship and material under normal use, proper installation and proper maintenance for twenty-four months from the date of delivery, with any claim made within six months of discovering the fault. Normal wear and routine servicing are excluded, and commercial or public-authority use falls outside the two-year warranty. The Power 48-5000 battery carries its own two-year non-commercial term.
