Does the Torqeedo Travel include a battery?
Not in every configuration. This listing offers three battery choices alongside the shaft length: motor only, motor with the Travel Battery, and motor with the Travel Battery XP. The motor-only option is exactly that — the outboard, its tiller, a charger, the standard propeller, the shaft anode, the fin and the emergency stop magnet, with no power source. The Travel will not run without a Torqeedo Travel-series battery, and it is not designed to be wired to an ordinary deep-cycle battery. Confirm the battery option showing in your cart before you check out.
What is the difference between the Travel Battery and the Travel Battery XP bundle?
Capacity, and therefore how long you stay out. Both are click-and-play lithium packs that seat directly on the motor with no cables to connect, and both share the same 44-volt nominal system voltage. The standard Travel Battery holds 1,080 Wh. The Travel Battery XP is the higher-capacity option: it extends runtime and range on the same motor, for roughly a kilogram more weight and a higher price. Capacity buys endurance, not speed — a bigger pack will not make the boat faster. If the exact capacity matters to your passage planning, ask us to confirm the pack shipping on your order.
What comes in the box with the Travel motor?
The motor package contains the outboard with its tiller control, the emergency stop magnetic chip, a 180 W charger, the standard 10 x 6.5 WDR propeller, the shaft anode, the fin and the operating instructions. The tiller carries an integrated backlit color display and on-board computer, so speed, power draw, state of charge and remaining range in time or distance are shown without adding anything. A battery is included only if you selected a battery configuration; the motor-only choice ships without one.
Is the Travel tiller-steered, or can it be used with a wheel?
The Travel is a tiller-steered outboard as supplied. The tiller folds, its friction is adjustable, forward and reverse can be swapped to suit how you sit, and it can be used standing. If your boat steers from a wheel or a rudder instead, a remote kit for the Travel connects the motor to standard Teleflex steering. That kit is an accessory and is not part of any configuration on this page, so order it separately if you need wheel steering.
Which shaft length should I choose?
Measure your transom, then match it. The short shaft is 62.5 cm (24.6 in) and suits a transom height of about 15 inches; the long shaft is 75 cm (29.5 in) and suits about 20 inches. Transom height is measured from the top edge of the transom straight down to the bottom of the keel, not from the waterline. Neither length is universally correct: too short and the propeller ventilates and loses bite in chop, too long and it adds drag and grounding risk. If your measurement sits near the boundary, call us before ordering.
What boats is the Travel intended for?
It is rated for tenders, dinghies and daysailers up to 1.5 tons, and it is at home on inland waterways and in harbors. At 1100 W of input power it is a 3 HP-equivalent outboard — horsepower equivalent is a comparison against the propulsion a petrol outboard of that rating delivers, not a measure of electrical shaft power and not a promise of a particular boat speed. Displacement, hull shape, load and conditions decide what you actually get. Heavier boats, or coastal and windier water, point toward the Torqeedo Travel XP instead.
What speed, range and runtime should I expect?
All three are configuration-dependent estimates, never a fixed figure. Published performance data for the Travel was recorded on specific test boats — a one-class racing sailboat and a 3.8 m inflatable dinghy — at an outside temperature of 22 °C, and the published caveat is explicit: deviations due to temperature, current and boat weight are possible. As a rule of thumb, full throttle empties a Travel pack in around an hour while slow cruising stretches it to several. Your hull, load, propeller and the day's wind and chop decide the real number.
How is the battery charged?
A 180 W mains charger is included with the motor, and the battery's LED shows state of charge at a glance even when the pack is off the motor. Two further charging routes exist as accessories rather than in-box items: a 12 V / 24 V charge cable that charges directly from the boat, and a solar charge cable for panels. Neither ships with the motor. If you expect to be away from shore power for days at a time, add the solar cable at the time of purchase.
What maintenance and winter storage does the Travel need?
Rinse the motor with fresh water after every use in salt water, check whether the anodes need replacing at least every six months or every 100 operating hours, and store the motor only when it is dry. The battery has its own storage rule: keep it at roughly half charge in a cool place, ideally between about 5 °C and 15 °C (41–59 °F), rather than fully charged, flat, or in a freezing or baking outbuilding. What warranty applies to the Travel?
Torqeedo warrants the product free from defects in workmanship and material under normal use, proper installation and proper maintenance for twenty-four months from the date of delivery, with any claim raised within six months of discovering the fault. Normal wear and routine servicing are excluded, and products used commercially or by public authorities — even temporarily — fall outside that two-year warranty, where statutory warranty applies instead.
