The Vanhunks Sauger 12ft tandem fishing Kayak is standard fitted with two removable Tool Pods, and this is where adaptability and versatility make the Sauger an exciting option for families and recreational to professionals. Equipped with the two Tool Pods, this is an exciting tandem kayak offering you excellent stability. Remove the tool pods and your fin drive or two can fit, transforming your kayak in a few easy steps. Should you wish to add a propeller drive instead, not a problem; the Sauger is fully compatible with Fin Drive or Propeller Drive. You have multiple upgrade options in one kayak.

At first look, the Sauger is a beautiful kayak with excellent finishes, and coloring but underneath that attractive appearance is a beast in manufacturing. Built from 5mm polyethylene, the Sauger is tough and can take what the elements throws at it.

Hull Design

When it comes to Hull’s design, the main objective was stability and speed. The Sauger has a Double Pontoon-shaped hull and a swallowtail, increasing the stability and carrying capacity of this kayak. The Double Pontoon Hull allows the easy flow of water through the channels, improving traction and increasing speed, making those long trips a pleasure.

Rudder System

To Assist with tracking and steering, the Sauger is fitter with a hand controller rudder system. The control of the rudder system can be by either the front or the back paddler. As a bonus, the Rudder blades are compatible with the Bixpy motor. Should you wish to add a Trolling motor, there are Brass inserts molded in at the Stern of the Kayak to make provision for a side motor mount.

Storage Space

Storage is ample on the Vanhunks Sauger, with rectangular hatches situated in front of both seats to allow easy accessibility for the paddler and access into the Sauger’s Hull. The hatches are both lockable and easy to operate. There is a corded bungee area at the bow and stern for any excess equipment you may have.

When you are on the water for a long-time, comfort is highly appreciated; the Sauger has a raised Deluxe Aluminium seat to assist. The seating is adjustable to recline, or upright to your comfort needs and the raised element keeps the water under the seat and not on you. Fishing kayak

I love my kayak it’s well made and very practical! The only thing I would recommend is having a better shipping strategy in place and having more product on hand. All in all this a great kayak!

Very comfortable yak

This yak is a very comfortable yak to be on for extended periods of time. The weight isn’t too bad and the pedal fins are awesome. The rudder could use some improvement, but it works. I do like that there is a lot of room for both people and stuff. This is my first kayak and I would recommend it to others.

Vanhunks Fin Drive tandem Kayak

This was my first Kayak purchase. I researched a lot and found lots of good ratings on the Vanhunks line of Kayaks. They seemed a bit pricey, but the reviews all said they were worth the price. The quality of the unit and its sturdiness is great. There are lots of places to store items while kayaking. The fin drive system is really neat. It works very well and get the kayak going easily. It fit into the slot easily but the clamps that hold it down are too short to secure it well. The clamps come loose a lot while using it and have to be retightened to keep the fin drive from coming out of the kayak. I had to have new clamps made that would hold the fin drive in the kayak. I had no idea how to hook up the rudder system and once I finally did it is "crappy" at best. It barely moves the rudder, and the string guides at the back of the boat pop out while trying to use it. The rudder control is so close to the seat that it can only be moved a little bit in one direction. There is also some kind of rudder "pull up" system but it does not work correctly. The entire rudder system (steering and "pull up") I am going to redesign myself to make it work right. I was a very disappointed there is NO user manual. Half of the "accessories" on the kayak I don 't even know what they are. Maybe a more seasoned kayaker would know? I'm not sure. The response from Eco Fishing is that there are "lots of You tube videos on them." I found the videos useless and hate having to search all over the web when there really should be a Vanhunks website with videos. IF Vanhunks does not want to do a user manual then I suggest they do their own training/user videos for buyers. The Seats are comfortable and adjustable, but they do "pop" out of the mounts very easily. The bungee cord tie down for the back is okay to keep them from sinking if the kayak goes over, but the front one won't even pull tight the front tight to the kayak floor. Knowing what I know now if I was to buy a new kayak again, I would look at different brands for the money. It is a good Kayak but there is a lot of room for improvement.
