The shad 10’4ft kayak is a kayak ahead of its time, with all its attributes molded into an excellent craft for the avid fisherman and the relaxed paddler who wants to take in the sights.

The Shad is standard fitted with a removable Tool Pod, equipped with the Tool Pod; this is an exciting maneuverable 10’4 fishing Kayak offering you excellent stability. Remove the tool pod and you can fit a fin drive, transforming your Kayak in a few easy steps. Should you wish to add a propeller drive instead, not a problem; the Shad is fully compatible with Fin Drive or Propeller Drive. You have multiple upgrade options in one Kayak. The Shad even have inserts for an electric motor on the Kayak’s stern should you decide to add an electric motor.

Hull Design

When looking at the hull design, stability was paramount, and the flat bottom with Pontoon Hull keeps the Kayak on an even keel and therefore allows confidence to sit or even stand easily. The shape and sleek lines in the hull design allow for much-needed speed and easy maneuverability. The Double Pontoon Hull allows the easy flow of water through the channels, increasing traction and increasing speed.

Rudder System

The Shad has an easy-to-operate adjustable foot control or hand-controlled rudder system and the system is interchangeable from one system to another. The Deep adjustable rudder provides great direct action and limits drift therefore keeping the speed of the Kayak. As a bonus, the Rudder blades are compatible with the Bixpy motor.

Storage Space & Seating

The Shad is equipped with a large equipment hatch at the Kayak’s bow, a round hatch behind the paddler, and a large Tank-Well in the stern, fitted with bungee cords to secure your load. The raised deluxe aluminum seating gives you a slightly elevated approach that assists with paddling and visibility and keeps you dry should there be excess water in the craft. The seating is adjustable to the front or the back and runs on a track system.

Angler Approved

The Shad designed for fishing; we added four embedded angled rod holders to assist with storage and rod positioning. Three accessory rails can take extra fishing rod holders, accessories, or a better still to mount your fish finder. A Fish Finder can be mounted to the Shad easily as there is spacing built into the Kayak’s hull for a transducer and cabling to run comfortably. The transducer plate protects your transducer and under the transducer plate, you will find pre-assembled inserts to secure your transducer.

Excellent kayak

This is my first pedal kayak and it took some time to figure out how to get it all adjusted to me, but once i had it on the water it came together fine My one complaint thus far is that the seat straps keep slipping and are almost impossible to reset when on the lake

Vanhunks shad is great

I tested it out all ready and I like it a lot because I am always on choppy water and I thought I was going to use outriggers for those big waves on open water and I don’t even need outriggers because it is so stable and it cuts through the water really good stability is amazing I love my shad kayak because it has a lot of room for mods and it comes ready for motor installation and it holds me well since I am 6 2’ and I am heavy it puts up to my weight and height I am happy with my purchase

Maiden voyage

Here it is almost Memorial Day and I finally get a break to test out my new Shad. Test #1 now that I’ve installed my accessories it’s time to transport via roof rack. I’m minus a cart and that seemed to be the biggest challenge but all and all not so bad went right up came right down. Held to the rack securely. Now for the water. Paddle out install fin drive give it a kick and the seat buckle slips. Or so I thought. The webbing on the seat buckle ripped and broke. I’m only 170lbs. So I just think it was a bad stitch from factory the other one held just fine so onward with my journey. The boat has nice room and seems very stable. Gear tracks make it easy for the setup you desire. Though a rather calm day on the lake weather wise I did take on a lot of wake from other boats due to the Holiday weekend. The shad handles like a champ! The fin drive performed as it should and the steering is solid. You aren’t going to win any races but keep in mind you’re out on the water taking in the views and catching fish all while getting a little exercise. I found it rewarding watching all the other traffic on the water race around from spot to spot due to a light wind all while I maintained a nice drift peddling and adjusting positions ever so slightly allowing me to land numerous fish when everyone else was struggling. The Shad provided a great day on the water in a section of the lake I chose to learn and explore. Even with the busted webbing I can’t complain. Just need a cart for a little ease and keel guards to keep it fresh. Very worthy vessel at a great price. Eco also answered all questions and concerns along the way. Great company great product.

Amazing Kayak for fishing

I showed up in store with little knowledge about fishing off of a kayak. I knew I wanted to get on the water to get more chances at the fish. I talked to Travis and he walked me through a bunch of boats and I fell in love with the Vanhunks Shad. It was in my budget and had storage for me. I have taken it out a few times and it hasn't failed me at all. The fin drive is so great and works perfectly, keeps me going through the water at around 3 mph according to my fish finder. Standing is not a problem in the least bit and it will get to those spots and score you those fish. Out of 3 outings I have reeled in almost 20 fish and the number just keep going up, can't wait to get more on the line and in the freezer!
