Who is the Big Fish 105 PDL designed for?

The 105 PDL is for anglers who want pedal power included from day one in the most compact hull 3 Waters offers it in.

Pedalling keeps both hands free to fish and covers water faster than paddling, which matters most on bigger lakes and when you are moving between spots. What is the Profish pedal drive, and what comes with the kayak?

The Profish Pedal Drive is included with this kayak — you are not buying it separately.

It is paired with the EZ Steer System and a Beaver Tail Rudder, so steering is handled by a hand control while your legs drive the boat. The adjustable EZ Rider comfort seat is also included as standard.

The drive unit itself weighs 21 lbs and lifts out, which is how you get into shallow water and how you load the boat without dragging the drive over obstacles.

How much does it actually weigh once the drive is fitted?

About 120 lbs ready to fish. The kayak is 99 lbs excluding the Profish drive, and the drive adds another 21 lbs — so the two together come to roughly 120 lbs, before any seat accessories, tackle or battery.

That is worth doing the arithmetic on, because the headline 99 lbs is the number most people remember. At 120 lbs rigged it is above the roughly 100 lb ceiling our car-topping guide treats as practical for roof-loading, so plan on a trailer or a cart.

You can lift the 21 lb drive out before loading, which brings the hull back to 99 lbs and makes car-topping feasible for a reasonably strong person with a good rack.

What are its dimensions?

It measures 10 ft 6 in long with a 33.25 in beam.

At 10 ft 6 in it will overhang the bed of a standard pickup, and you will want roughly 11 ft of clear space for garage or shed storage. Allow extra room to store the drive unit somewhere dry.

How much weight can it carry?

The rated maximum capacity is 350 lbs, and that includes paddler, gear, and any other items — a total loaded weight, not an allowance on top of your body weight.

Remember the drive is part of the boat, not part of the payload, so 350 lbs is what is left for you and your kit. Can I stand up and fish from it?

Yes — it is built for it. It has a padded, reinforced standing platform and a cathedral tri-hull design, the wide multi-chined hull shape that gives the Big Fish series its reputation for stability.

The number underneath that is the beam: 33.25 in. On a 10 ft 6 in hull that is a wide beam for the length, which is what makes standing practical on a boat this compact.

How should I clean, store and maintain it?

Rinse it with fresh water after every saltwater trip, store it out of prolonged direct sunlight, and keep it away from temperature extremes.

That is not just good practice — it is written into the warranty, which excludes damage from prolonged or repeated exposure to harsh environmental elements, including UV exposure, saltwater corrosion, extreme temperatures, and improper storage and maintenance. A hull left uncovered in full sun through a season is the most common way owners fall outside coverage.

If you have no shaded or indoor storage, budget for a cover or a shaded rack alongside the kayak.

What warranty applies, and how do I register it?

The hull is covered for three years from the date of retail purchase and accessories for one year.

The warranty registration form should be submitted within 30 days of the original purchase date, and you should keep your sales receipt as proof of purchase. Claims are handled through the dealer you bought the kayak from — for kayaks bought here, that is us, so start with our team. You will need your serial number, date of purchase and photos of the issue.

Stated exclusions include normal wear and tear, accident, neglect or misuse, prolonged UV or saltwater exposure, commercial or rental use, kayaks towed behind a power or sail boat, colour variation, and products that have been “structurally altered or modified.” Ask our team and we will send you the full warranty terms.

Honest One-Month Review After 5+ Fishing Trips

I waited about a month and completed five or six fishing trips before writing this review because I wanted enough time on the water to identify both the strengths and weaknesses of this kayak.

For some background, I live on the lake and keep the kayak in the water for most of the summer, only pulling it out occasionally to clean the hull. This is my first pedal kayak after years of fishing from a Lifetime paddle kayak, so my perspective is from someone making that transition.

What I Love

Coming from a budget paddle kayak, this has been an absolute game changer. The difference is hard to overstate. If I had realized how much more enjoyable fishing would be without constantly putting the rod down to correct my position, only to drift off target a cast or two later, I would have bought a pedal kayak years ago.

The tri-hull design is incredibly stable. Standing to fish feels natural, and sitting back down is just as easy. At no point have I felt unstable or uncomfortable.

The pedal drive is quiet, smooth, and easy to operate. It's also light enough that installing or removing it isn't a chore.

Overall, the kayak appears to be very well built. The accessory rails are well positioned, the storage wells are practical, and the access ports are adequately sized. I can fit a standard milk crate in the rear storage area with rod holders on both sides, allowing me to carry up to eight rods without issue.

Things I'd Improve
Seat Comfort

The seat isn't the most comfortable seat on the market, but it's more than adequate for a typical 5-6 hour fishing trip. For reference, I'm 5'8" and have the seat positioned in the middle of its forward/back adjustment range, which seems to be the sweet spot for me.

My biggest complaint isn't the comfort—it's the noise. The seat material tends to creak against the metal frame as you shift your weight. I'm not sure whether this has any effect on fishing or if it will quiet down as the seat breaks in over time. Either way, it's not a deal breaker, but it's something prospective buyers should be aware of.

Floor Panels & Scupper Holes

The removable padded floor panels are comfortable, but they cover multiple scupper holes. Unfortunately, that means you can't install scupper plugs while using the floor panels. You're forced to choose between having the padded flooring or plugging those scupper holes—you can't have both. It's not a deal breaker, but it feels like a design oversight.

Weight

At roughly 120 pounds with the pedal drive installed, this kayak is no lightweight. It's heavy and not particularly fast. For me, that's perfectly acceptable because it stays in the water for most of the season and I'm never in a hurry while fishing.

However, if you'll be loading it into a truck, transporting it frequently, launching and recovering it every trip, or racing 15 anglers to the best spot in your local tournament, the weight should be a major consideration.

Prop Centering

I'm also not a fan of the prop-centering mechanism. This may be user error, but I've never been able to consistently center the prop using the centering mechanism. Instead, I've simply memorized the pedal position that lines it up correctly.

Pedals Working Loose

One minor annoyance is that I always carry an Allen wrench with me. Occasionally, the pedals begin to loosen, and you'll hear a clicking noise that lets you know it's time to tighten them. I've tried using Loctite, which helps for a while, but eventually the pedals still work themselves loose.

It's a small inconvenience, but one worth mentioning.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. For the price, I think this kayak offers tremendous value. It has dramatically improved my time on the water, and I find myself fishing more often simply because it's so much easier and more enjoyable to use.

It's not perfect, but none of the issues I've mentioned would keep me from buying it again. The stability, pedal drive, build quality, and overall fishability far outweigh the few minor shortcomings.

If your priorities are stability, comfort, and spending long days fishing, I would absolutely recommend it. Just be prepared for the extra weight if you plan to transport it frequently.
