FeelFree Lure ll Tandem Overdrive Fishing Kayak

The 2023 Feelfree Lure II Tandem Overdrive features the modern evolution of pedal powered kayak propulsion offering effortless speed, ease of use and adaptability. The Overdrive is in the rear seat cockpit area giving the front passenger the option to fish, help you find fish or simply sit back and relax. The Overdrive unit is the only two-in-one system that offers forward and reverse pedal or power driven capabilities in one single unit when paired with the Motordrive*. It features a one-handed rudder steering lever control and Gravity seat adjuster for the ultimate in accessibility and comfort. Engineered to last, the system is manufactured using cast aluminum and finished off with heavy-duty components. Paddle, pedal or power, the Overdrive system gives kayak anglers and recreational paddlers the flexibility to Feelfree all day long no matter where they choose to have fun! *The Motordrive attachment is sold separately.

The New Lure II Tandem is Feelfree’s newest compliment to the Lure Series of Kayaks. Based on the same amazing comfort, stability and versatility anglers demand out of a kayak – only x 2! With 2 complete cockpits featuring the removable sonar & electronic sonar pod in front, standing platforms and patented Gravity Seats, the Lure II cuts no corners to offer the best for two anglers. The kayak also comes with a variety of unique features seen on the Lure series including the patented Wheel in the Keel and sturdy molded in handles. Like most Feelfree kayaks, the Lure II comes with everything you need to get out and go fish including the Uni-Track system for unlimited outfitting configurations, flush mounted rod holders and a large tankwell to store your fishing gear or a cooler.

What sets the Lure II apart from other tandems is the multi-configuration options. Paddle with a friend or family member, one can control the boat and keep an eye on the fish finder while the other fishes and vice versa. The Lure II can also be paddled as a solo kayak from the rear seat position – with a multitude of options. In the solo position, you can remove the front Gravity seat providing even more room for standing and storage, add a stand up bar to sight cast or cooler to sit on. Stand, sit high, sit low, one or two anglers, pedal*, paddle, power* and go fishing, the Lure II will be the one boat that can truly replace them all.

Great fishing kayak for the right person.

After researching all of our options, I elected to go with the Lure Tandem for me and my son as our first fishing kayak. We are very happy with our decision but be aware that this kayak (like any other) will be a better fit for some vs others.

PROS:
- Not seen a Hobie, but for the money, the quality and features are a plus. The Lure series comes off as more of a serious fishing machine rather than a kayak that has been adapted to fishing.
- Gravity seats are comfortable and again give the kayak a more substantial feel.
- Sonar pod is a very convenient way to mount your fish finder in one contained unit that can come in and out of the kayak.
- Overdrive system is very robust and the fact that you can integrate the motor drive into it in one system is convenient and comes off as a lot less 'home-built' than a lot of custom trolling motor setups.
- A lot of accessory rail space.
- Very stable on the water.

CONS
- Very heavy and unwieldly. I'm a strong guy and I struggle to load and unload with my son and forget about the wheel in the keel. A cart lug the Railblaza C-Tug is a must.
- Uni track is non standard so you will need a lot of adapters for YAKATTACK accessories etc.
- Overdrive pedal system is ok when the water is calm, but for the size/weight of the boat and only being only one drive source, the guy pedaling will get tired in a hurry in fast moving water, especially as the pedal drive has a lot of friction until broken in. I had to go with the motordrive option as a result despite not intending to originally.
- Dry hatch in the front and dry well in the rear are quite small (as expected for a tandem). Just keep in mind that you will not be able to store batteries (or the motordrive controller) in a compartment like on single person Lures. You will also be limited on crate size in the rear.

Despite the cons, the Lure Tandem works for me and my son. It has enough room at about 14 ft and has enough features that we can get all of our accessories on no problem. But it is large and heavy and will need to be trailered so keep all of this in mind!

Love it with a a couple exceptions

My biggest issue is there isn't enough leg room to comfortably pedal with the seat all the way back. I'm close to 6, 2 and longer on the torso then the norm, but it's still really cramped. The seat tips back as I push the pedals and my legs are uncomfortably bent. I would have not splurged for the overdrive had I known. I would like an option to hard mount the front of the seat, and a taller man's seat that juts back further to adress these issues.

Also the fishing pole holder I ordered in the package with the kayak didn't have the correct mount for the track. I had to buy an adapter to mount it.

Lure ll

overall this kayak is very stable but first time taking it out the wheel on the keel is a joke if your taking more than 20 feel definitely recommended some sort of landing gear rear storage is pretty small but the rudder system works great and the overdrive system is okay I believe I just need to break it in overall with some modifications I can make this into a bass catching machine big note the customer service at EcoFishingShop is amazing to top it off with the best prices I give EFS 5 stars easy but the kayak at first impressions a 3.8 rn but It would need some breaking in to make it more comfortable

The pros and the cons

I have two kayaks, the feel free lure2 with overdrive, and a perception outlaw 11.5.
The first thing you notice is the weight difference. The lure is not that much longer but weighs significantly more. It’s a beast. Easier to move when using the C tug, but very hard without. The perception is just plain light in comparison. The pedal drive is great, really would have a hard time without us as I bought this for my special needs adult son and I. Would not be able to paddle far, so the pedal drive is nice. From what I read, after break in, it will get better yet . The only drawback is, I wish the seat went back a little further so my legs could extend fully when pedaling. I’m 5’ 10” and it’s a little cramped.
As far as stability, both of my kayaks are super stable, can easily stand in both, I like the feel free a little better n this regard as from the rear seat position , when you stand, you are in the middle of the kayak. With the perception you are more on front, so you have to get your balance a little slower . Transporting is very easy with both, as they both fit in the back of the truck together with no issues. One con about the pedal drive for me is, I like to be able to use the carry case to transport it. I don’t get to use the yak as much as I would like so keeping it stored in the case is nice. However, you have to use a rubber mallet to get the pedal arms off the system every time, which is a big hassle. Im fearful of possibly damaging it, but it doesn’t make sense to keep it somewhere out is the case when I'm not using it. My yaks hang flat on my garage wall so I can’t keep the pedal drive on it.
Hope this review helps. For its intended purpose with my son, I would recommend it.
