If the damage is cosmetic and/or able to be repaired, such as dents or scratches, EFS will provide a repair kit. If you choose to replace a kayak with minor cosmetic damage instead, then you will be charged a 20% restocking fee.

The Eco Fishing Shop definition of damage is when the kayak is delivered in a condition that compromises the hull and is confirmed with the vendor that would void the warranty.

How much weight can the Old Town Topwater 106 carry?

Total capacity is 440 lb and usable capacity is 365 lb. Those are different numbers and the second one is the one that matters to you.

Total capacity includes the assembled kayak itself. Usable capacity is what is left for people, gear, pets and any equipment you add, after the 75 lb assembled weight is accounted for. Never treat the total figure as the amount you can load aboard.

Do not load to the limit. Every pound you add costs freeboard, and freeboard is what keeps chop on the outside of the boat.

What seat does it come with?

It comes with the Element Air Seating, which weighs 5 lb and lifts out.

Taking the seat out is the first thing to do before you load the kayak on a vehicle. It also makes the boat easier to hose down and easier to store.

Seat comfort is the thing most people underestimate. If you are planning six-hour days, spend time getting the seat position and the footrests set up properly rather than assuming you will adjust to it.

Is it stable enough to stand up and fish?

At 34.5 in wide on a hull of 10 ft 6 in, it is built around a stable platform rather than outright speed.

Whether you can stand and fish from it is a question about you as much as the kayak — your balance, your weight, how the boat is loaded and what the water is doing. Try it in shallow, calm water close to shore before you rely on it, and keep a hand on the gunwale as you come up.

Can I add a pedal drive or a motor to it later?

Not a pedal drive. This is a paddle hull; it does not have a drive well, and a PDL or ePDL+ drive is not a later add-on. The pedal models are different hulls built around the drive from the start.

The pedal equivalent of this hull is the Old Town Topwater 106 PDL, and if there is any chance you will want pedal propulsion it is far cheaper to buy that now than to buy this one and change your mind.

How do I transport and store it?

Length is 10 ft 6 in, width is 34.5 in, and the assembled weight is 75 lb.

For transport, take off the seat (5 lb). That is the difference between moving an awkward assembled boat and moving a hull.

Check the load ratings on your vehicle, your crossbars and your rack before you commit — the weakest one governs. A cart makes the walk from the car to the water a non-event and is the cheapest upgrade most owners make.

What warranty applies?

The hull and deck carry limited lifetime coverage for the original retail purchaser, subject to the published warranty terms. Accessories are generally covered for one year from the original purchase date.

Warranty service does not go through the retailer. Retailers are not authorized to perform warranty repairs on these kayaks, so a claim is opened directly with Old Town customer service rather than with us. We are not the decision-maker on coverage.

Can I use it in saltwater, and how should I look after it?

No saltwater rating is published here. Plenty of these are fished in salt and brackish water without trouble, but that outcome comes from maintenance rather than from a rating.

Rinse the hull, the seat frame, the tracks and every fastener with fresh water after a saltwater trip, then let it dry before you put it away. Salt attacks as it dries, and the parts people forget are the ones that seize.

Store it out of the sun and spread the load — on its side, on padded bunks, or on wide straps. A hull left on a narrow support through a summer will show it.

I bought the Old Town sportsman 106 because I was looking for a kayak of good quality stability and fishability.
I ordered the kayak from Eco fishing shop July 18th of 2020 and was supposed to receive it NLT mid sept, but did not receive the kayak until December 7th.
I understand that Eco fishing is at the mercy of the manufacturer, and Old town was behind with manufacturing of the kayak so with that said my complaint is that Eco fishing shop did not do a very good job of keeping me posted on the delay.
When I received the kayak, the protective plastic rap and shipping material were ripped and torn in several places, and the bottom of the kayak had several scratches, I don't think this effects the overall performance of the kayak and I don't hold this agains Eco fishing shop, once again I understand that they are at the mercy of the shipping company, but definitely a disappointment and a hug problem with ordering anything on line.
I am disappointed in the quality of the kayak cosmetically. I ordered the first light patter and there is a very large section on the back of the kayak and several small areas were it looks like the die did not mix with the Polyethylene, although this dose not effect the overall performance of the kayak, I can say that if I was purchasing the kayak in person at a retail store Instead of ordering on line, I would have passed on this kayak simply because this would have made me question the quality of the rest of the kayak. I honestly believe that if a retail store had ordered this kayak to sell out of a store, they would have returned it to Old town and asked for a replacement.
I have purchased several old town products in the past, and I truly am a fan of old town products, I sincerely hope that they are not sacrificing the quality of there products simply because they are behind in production and to meet demand.
Over all the kayak did perform very well on the water, I took the kayak out on the lake the day after receiving it and it lived up to its reputation, it was very stable, comfortable to fish out of and tracked very well.
