Here's exactly how Eco Fishing Shop packs, ships, and delivers your fishing kayak so it arrives ready to fish.

Old Town Topwater 120 Features

Frequently Asked Questions About the Old Town Topwater 120

Who is the Topwater 120 best suited to?

Anglers who want more length and capacity than the Topwater 106 in a paddle hull. At 12 ft with 500 lb total and 418 lb usable, it carries well for its 82 lb assembled weight.

It suits lakes, slower rivers and protected inshore water where you cover distance under paddle.

Judge each trip on the day, not on the spec sheet. Wind and cold water are what turn an easy paddle into a hard one, and both change faster than forecasts suggest.

How much weight can the Old Town Topwater 120 carry?

Total capacity is 500 lb and usable capacity is 418 lb. Those are different numbers and the second one is the one that matters to you.

Total capacity includes the assembled kayak itself. Usable capacity is what is left for people, gear, pets and any equipment you add, after the 82 lb assembled weight is accounted for. Never treat the total figure as the amount you can load aboard.

Do not load to the limit. Every pound you add costs freeboard, and freeboard is what keeps chop on the outside of the boat.

What seat does it come with?

It comes with the Element Air Seating, which weighs 5 lb and lifts out.

Taking the seat out is the first thing to do before you load the kayak on a vehicle. It also makes the boat easier to hose down and easier to store.

Seat comfort is the thing most people underestimate. If you are planning six-hour days, spend time getting the seat position and the footrests set up properly rather than assuming you will adjust to it.

Is it stable enough to stand up and fish?

At 33.5 in wide on a hull of 12 ft, it is built around a stable platform rather than outright speed.

Whether you can stand and fish from it is a question about you as much as the kayak — your balance, your weight, how the boat is loaded and what the water is doing. Try it in shallow, calm water close to shore before you rely on it, and keep a hand on the gunwale as you come up.

Judge each trip on the day, not on the spec sheet. Wind and cold water are what turn an easy paddle into a hard one, and both change faster than forecasts suggest.

Can I add a pedal drive or a motor to it later?

Not a pedal drive. This is a paddle hull; it does not have a drive well, and a PDL or ePDL+ drive is not a later add-on. The pedal models are different hulls built around the drive from the start.

The pedal equivalent of this hull is the Old Town Topwater 120 PDL, and if there is any chance you will want pedal propulsion it is far cheaper to buy that now than to buy this one and change your mind.

Motor and accessory mounting varies by model and by what you want to run, so ask us about your specific plan before you buy hardware. If you want us to check a specific setup before you order, call 844-987-5777 or email sales@ecofishingshop.com.

How do I transport and store it?

Length is 12 ft, width is 33.5 in, and the assembled weight is 82 lb.

For transport, take off the seat (5 lb). That is the difference between moving an awkward assembled boat and moving a hull.

Check the load ratings on your vehicle, your crossbars and your rack before you commit — the weakest one governs. A cart makes the walk from the car to the water a non-event and is the cheapest upgrade most owners make.

What warranty applies?

The hull and deck carry limited lifetime coverage for the original retail purchaser, subject to the published warranty terms. Accessories are generally covered for one year from the original purchase date.

Warranty service does not go through the retailer. Retailers are not authorized to perform warranty repairs on these kayaks, so a claim is opened directly with Old Town customer service rather than with us. We are not the decision-maker on coverage.

What we can do is help you work out which component is involved, what documentation you need and which support path applies. If you want us to check a specific setup before you order, call 844-987-5777 or email sales@ecofishingshop.com.

Can I use it in saltwater, and how should I look after it?

No saltwater rating is published here. Plenty of these are fished in salt and brackish water without trouble, but that outcome comes from maintenance rather than from a rating.

Rinse the hull, the seat frame, the tracks and every fastener with fresh water after a saltwater trip, then let it dry before you put it away. Salt attacks as it dries, and the parts people forget are the ones that seize.

Store it out of the sun and spread the load — on its side, on padded bunks, or on wide straps. A hull left on a narrow support through a summer will show it.

Great kayak

The Topwater 120 is a great, sturdy and very well balanced for not turning over. The rod rails are sturdy. Just over all very nice kayak . One issue with the Topwater 120 is the rear handle. It only has one rear handle. That would be fine because it’s sturdy enough to handle the weight but it’s not in center so it hard to carry. For me if it only has one handle move it to center or just put two on each side.

Good kayak overall

Havent had the kayak long. Only once on water. Rear handle is off center by design, makes carrying akward. Rear bungees are connected with loops instead of hooks. May replace with hooks for more versatility. Paddle holder bolts on outside of hull on side. I won't use it as it'll get torn off or snag me on something. Needs paddle holder inside edge of hull. Kayak seat very comfy, stable to stand and fish, paddles well for this style of kayak. Good color (first light) for versatility. Will be used for hunting, fishing and bow fishing. Not a perfect kayak, but pretty good for the price point.

I’ve been kayak fishing for about 5 years now. It has become one of my favorite things to do. This year I decided to upgrade my equipment. After doing a lot of research I went with the Old Town Topwater 120.

I knew because of supply and demand it would take a while for it to get to me. Ordered in May with an estimated September delivery. Eco Fishing kept me constantly updated on the progress of my kayak. It was a happy surprise when they told me my Topwater would be coming in July.

My new kayak showed up 2 days before my annual friends fishing trip. I couldn’t have been happier with my choice of boat. Incredibly comfortable smooth ride with all the cargo space and rod holders I needed. Even had enough room for me to put my 8 year in front of me and take her for a ride.

In conclusion my choice to go with Old Town for my kayak was a good one. Even better was going with Eco Fishing as my supplier. Always kept me in formed on progress and I love the Facebook page they’ve created. Such an awesome community of kayak and fishing enthusiasts like me.

Topwater 120....Long wait over!

Although it took nearly four months from order to delivery, I still must give a five star rating on my experience with Eco Fishing Shop. Regardless of my numerous emails and live chats, I received nothing but helpful service from Perry and the rest of the staff during the four month span. Knowing that ECO went the extra mile to throw in a $150.00 C Tug cart, only proves that they care for their clients. So yes, I am very pleased with ECO and my Old Town Topwater 120 paddle version.
